Projecting pictures, graphics, videos, tags or 3D objects on building becomes more an more popular. The guys of the Graffiti Research Lab (GRL) have received lots of positive exhortations for their creative light artworks and also the graphically architecture projections by Urban Screen became famous.
Another great example for the creative handling of light in an urban environment is the Madrid-based artists collective Luz Interruptus, who fascinates with funky lighting installations.
These are just three example of a new global urban art movement. I call it metaphorically “The Urban Enlightened” - A loose grouping of urban artists and activists who are using the latest state-of-the-art technology, like OLEDs (“organic light emitting diode”), laser (“light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation”) or lithium batteries.
Other artists, like the French-based urban artist Zevs, use luminescent liquids for their paintings, which are for example only visible under UV light (ultraviolet).
