Art Books | After the fantastic “Urban Interventions” book and the brilliant “History Of Uncommissioned Urban Art”, the German publishers of Gestalten are going to release the next hardcover masterwork. The topic this time: Political Art and Activism!
Life has become significantly more political in the new millennium, especially in the aftermath of worldwide financial crisis. Art is both driving and documenting this upheaval. Increasingly, new visual concepts and commentaries are being used to represent and communicate emotionally charged topics, thereby bringing them onto local political and social agendas in a way far more powerful than words alone. (Gestalten)
Whether Ai Weiwei and The Wa or JR, Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Voina and YesMen (just to name a few), “Art & Agenda - Political Art and Activism” introduces a variety of artists focusing on relationships between current political topics, art and activism in their artworks and forges in that way a bridge between street art, urban art interventions and other, more classical, contemporary art.
This combination is what makes this book, which by the way was edited among others by Alain Bieber, the owner of Rebelart (the most famous German blog for culture jammers, adbusters, net activists, street Artists and vandals) that interesting and a great addition for my art book collection!
All the 288 pages of “Art & Agenda - Political Art and Activism” are available e.g. on Amazon!
