Art Magazine: Urban & Street Art Features

It’s the last day in this year’s October and although it’s still sunny (at least in Berlin) the dark and cold season is coming closer and closer. For that reason I’d like to give you the chance to grab some good reading before you’re getting bored while staying inside all day long by recommending you the latest urban art books and magazines I got so far… To do that in a somehow structured way, I collected a stack of urban art related publications by different publishers which I’ll introduce to you one after another during the first half of November. And to extend this Urban Art Books & Mags Special and to bring joy to some of you I will also give away some of the presented printed works. After that marvellous 15th issue of UK’s VNA magazine, some weeks ago the next one was released including a large feature of French tile/ pixel artist Invader! Recently the VNA crew published a nice teaser documenting their meet and greet with the famous street artist, showing a neat insight into the interview which can be found entirely in the 16th VNA issue. I already got my copy for what reason I can promise, that it’s worth it! ...

Hamburg-based Spacedepartment is, after Gaffa-Urbanism and Copy & Paste, right now planning the next Urban Spacemag issue (number 4!), for what reason they are calling loud and far for your ideas, texts, questions, images, diagrams, stories and opinions! This issues main topic is Ego-Urbanism. You know it’s about questions like who is positioning opinions in public urban space, how much power one single person has in the urban environment or which different interests in urban space exist. ...

Shepard Fairey, Logan Hicks, Burning Candy, Nychos, Elph and other interesting urban artists are featured in the latest issue of the Very Nearly Almost magazine, which also includes one of my Urban Artists in Action shots and photo-specials not just about London and LA, but also about Berlin! Because of so much awesome, the VNA crew had to squeeze in extra 32 pages to make it all fit, which is why this issue is the biggest in VNA history! Fortunately I recently received two issues of the number 15, for what reason I am able to give away one VNA mag for free… ...

Graffiti Magazine | Today I first got to know the graffiti mag Sandblast, which “is the first magazine to cover the Middle Eastern graffiti scene in depth.” (Invasian) Including interviews, photos and background-stories, the first issue of the Magazine which will be out in July features graffiti and its protagonists from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Egypt what’s a quite interesting thing with all the riots, protests and revolutions in mind! And also the cover whets my appetite for some more nice shots and Arabic letters on trains and walls! ...

Urban Art Mag | A couple of weeks ago, I received a small package from my friends in London, including the latest issue of the urban art magazine “Very Nearly Almost” (VNA)! It’s the 14th issue and again it includes a lot of interesting interview with a lot of interesting urban artists as well as nice photos from the streets of London and Miami. This time, the VNA team interviewed Sickboy, Pedro Matos, Doze Green, Voina, Dick Chicken, Mobstr and some others, which seems to be a nice, varied collection of more or less well-known, but very talented artist… ...

Photo Magazine | Do you remember the new urban magazine Uebergrund by Sebastian Linck? A short time after I posted my review, the first issue was almost sold out! Now, the second issue has been published and again Sebastian was so kind to send me his new urban photo mag… In Uebergrund 2 everything is about the underground, for what reason the mag includes nice shots of subway tunnels, basements, catacombs and other dark places in Darmstadt, Lisbon, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Berlin. With this issue, Sebastian is following the trend of urban exploring and created a nice, small work which is a must to have for all who love abandoned places and the underground! ...

Art Magazine | After I wrote about the Amateur Magazine from Switzerland last year, one of their editors promised me to send some issues of their mag, so that i can have a direct view. Recently I received the two latest issues… I feel really positive about this urban art, illustration, design and culture magazine which is published regularly for two years now. In my opinion it’s worth to support the Amateur Magazine team and their professional print product, for what reason I took some quick insight-the-mag shots while I relaxed in Berlin’s warm January sun today. ...

Urban Art Magazine | There are some really good urban art magazine including the VNA Magazine from London, the Spacemag from Hamburg, the Hidden Champion Magazine from Japan and the Crack Mag from Amsterdam out there and I’m pretty sure a lot of you know at least one of these, but recently I found another, quite interesting and nice one from Switzerland… The Amateur Magazine is “a Swiss artist driven print publication with a broad view on the exchangeable worlds of urban arts, illustration, design and culture. It is about fresh creative people, projects, products and places.” It’s distributed in about 20 cities all over the globe, including Berlin, Paris, New York, Milan, London and Barcelona or available online and published twice a year! The last issue (number seven!) includes articles, statements and photos about Pablo Cots, Onur, Beastman, the Urban Art Studio in Zurich, and other urban-inspired topics like art and fashion… ...
