Urban Art Photo Contest 2010
Update: Here are the winners of the Urban Photo-Contest 2010…
It’s amazing to see how well this urban art blog grows. A lot of graffiti and street art enthusiasts follow me on twitter (about 2.500), read the RSS feed (about 630) and comment or link back the posts. I never thought about that success when I started the www.urbanartcore.eu project with that great urban photo contest in August 2009. About 220 people with about 700 photos joined the competition at that time…

Live-Paintings - Jaybo’s ProjectRoom
If you already had have a look at my photo-collection of the Herakut live-painting, you should know how great live-paintings are. One of the greatest or maybe the greatest art space for urban-inspired live-paintings and other creative things is the “ProjectRoom” project by Jaybo, also known as Monk.
One of the latest live-actions in the “ProjectRoom”, which is mainly based in Berlin, was the collaboration of Jaybo and Remi/Rough. By the way, also the kick-ass Herakut action took place there…

Papergirl 2010 - The Exhibition
It would be a torture to write down all the participating artist of this year’s issue of the Berlin-based Papergirl project. 238 different artist from all over the globe joined that alternative street art project, which was held the first time in 2006.
They ride their bikes, carrying rolls filled with collections of art, throwing them to lucky catchers on the street, in their cars, other bikers, people who might not normally be exposed to urban art. In addition a Papergirl USA project recently launched and new projects are sprouting up in over a dozen cities around the world. (coolhunting.com) Papergirl’s basic idea is to bring art into the public space in a different way than usual. For that reason, the project includes an exhibition, an urban action (hand out the artworks), a bicycle workshop and a party. It’s a wide range the organizers have to cover, but in the fifth year everything should work fine.

Pedro Matos: Portrait or Urban Reality?
As you maybe know, Portuguese artist Pedro Matos opened his solo-exhibition called “Reality Show” four days ago in Lisbon. Today he sent in some first photos from the opening evening at Montana Shop & Gallery…
In my eyes, Pedro’s style is really mad! I love these dirty backgrounds and the highly detailed portraits in the foreground. It’s a very special combination of quick spray-painting and marker techniques on the one hand and traditional oil and acrylic painting techniques on the other hand.

Minimalistic Paper Art - 1010
Last Friday, the slightly different street art exhibition by urban artist 1010 opened in Berlin and presents really interesting, strange and minimalistic paper artworks.
For about 15 years, 1010 is an active part in Germany’s street art scene. Therefore, the Hamburg-based artist is one of the last still active street art veterans. Although the media he uses ranges from wall paint to paste-ups and paper cuts, you can find similar elements in each of his artworks.

1010 - Abstract Creatures Exhibition
I’m proud to announce the upcoming solo-exhibition by well-known street artist 1010 in Berlin, because I love his crazy minimalistic style! 1010 and of course his strange painted or silhouetted creatures are well-known in Germany and Europe - Recently he painted an amazing new artwork at the Eco Jam session in Szczecin.
Although the characters are reduced to their geometric and basic shapes, they seem to be alive - crying, eating, running or laughing, they are always in action…

Herakut Graffiti - Dirty Fine Art Show
This June will be hot! It’s not only the release month of Martha Cooper’s new Name Tagging book, but the month of Herakut’s first solo show on their home turf in Germany, called Unhappy Doubt-Day.
Herakut Graffiti Works The urban art show, including most recent dirty fine graffiti artworks by the Herakut duo, will be presented by Galerie Springmann.Varol, which is currently showing JR’s “Women are Heros”!
For me, Herakut’s way of creating artworks is fascinating. After I visited their live painting last year, I’m a big fan of that interaction between dirty colors and drips and the amazing detailed appearance. I think the art show will be - like the Os Gêmeos graffiti show - very interesting not only for graffiti lovers, but for contemporary art fans!

Os Gemeos: Biggest Graffiti Event?
Attention graffiti lovers around the world - The famous graffiti-twins from Os Gemeos, Otávio and Gustavo will have their newest exhibition in Lisbon, called Pra quem mora lá, o céu é lá, which means something like For those who live there, the sky is there!
The show, which will start tomorrow evening at the Museu Berardo in the Portuguese capital, seems to become an well-attended international graffiti event. My friend Target even finds that the Os Gêmeos exhibition will be “one of the biggest events of the year not only for any graffiti enthusiast, but for any art lover.”

Urban Reality Show - Pedro Matos
Oh yes, I have a new hero - It’s the young Portuguese urban artist Pedro Matos, who convinces with an unbelievable painting talent!
This June he will open his new solo-exhibition called “Reality Show” in Lisbon, what makes me angry because I can’t be there. The very amazing artworks (they are great, right?) of his recent series are a mixture of rough and dirty aerosol paintings and fine, detailed oil and acrylic paintings, mostly showing portrays. It’s like post-graffiti meets an old master of arts!
