Herakut Live in London, Photos

Herakut is probably the most famous and popular urban art duo from Germany. Their impressing mixture of rough, dirty painting and photo-realistic elements is well-known all over the world. In October, I met both of them at the Moniker Art Fair in London and had the chance to document their live painting at Village Underground. I really enjoyed watching them painting one of these typical London brick walls and in my opinion they did a great job again. Graffiti Action: Nychos Photo-Series

Artist in Action | Last month, famous Austrian graffiti artist Nychos exhibited at Pure Evil Gallery in London. During his stay in the British capital I caught up with him on top of a roof in Shoreditch and took a nice graffiti action photo-series. Thanks to the bright sun and my friend Probs for making the shooting possible and to Revert and Inkfetish for the good company! Nychos, who is mainly known around the globe for his prolific street art concept “Rabbit Eye Movement”, combines in his urban artworks his cartoonist and illustrator attitude as well as his personal development and a big portion of humorous remarks and fun. ...

London Graffiti | London-based graffiti artist Ben Eine is probably one of the most famous British graffiti artists and that not just since David Cameron has given one of his paintings to President Obama. Eine’s bold letters especially those on the shutters and of course the so called Alphabet Street are well-known around the globe! Last weekend, I met Ben while he and his crew spray-painted a new wall in Shoreditch as a part of the Moniker Art Fair which will open its doors this Thursday. Now it’s time! My new urban art photo-blog about street artists in action is online with some first basic posts, including interesting photos of Flying Förtress, The London Police, Seak One, Buffdiss, Mode2, Augustine Kofie and The Mac at work! Inspired by that fantastic street artists at work photo-gallery, I had the idea to create my own gallery-blog, focusing on graffiti and street artists being creative: For years now, I document street art in Berlin and other European cities I visited. What I learned is, when you are deep in that multicultural and highly creative public art scene, you want to get in touch with its protagonists, with the people behind those often funny or political street artworks. In Action: RDW Stencil Art, London

Last weekend I caught up with Argentinian stencil artists RDW in London and took shots of some live action on the streets - The result was a huge stencil-sprayed portrait of Che Guevara on Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch. London Graffiti: Meeting of Styles, Photos

The world’s biggest graffiti festival, the legendary international Meeting Of Styles, took place in the Highbury Studios in north London for the last two day. In addition to London-based graffiti legends as Tizer or She1 about 50 other international well-known wall painters and graffiti artists - for example Inkfetish, 3Steps, MadC, Probs, Korps, Dran, Sowat, Bomk, Sebasura, Liliwenn (teaser-shot) - participated and created in that way a fantastic graffiti atmosphere! Since its inception in 2002, Meeting Of Styles has organised more than 70 events, reached more than 120,000 people, and spread its creativity, passion and message across 16 countries. Their mission? To add ‘colour and vitality to blank urban landscapes in a creative and relaxed atmosphere whilst leaving a legacy of art,’ and with such a broad range of graffiti styles on offer they’re certainly taking the London festival seriously. Photos: Urban Art under the Westway

For one week, a lot of interesting and totally different urban artists worked hard under London’s Westway and finally tomorrow the public opening will take place. I already went to see Snub23, Sinna One, Ink Fetish, Funky Red Dog, Foundry, Leeks, Nine-o, Fin DAC and other London-based graffiti and street artists during the last days and of course took some photos… The location is rather nice and the feeling between the concrete pillars, stabilizing the Westway, is pure urban! Live-Painting: Kofie & El Mac

As mentioned yesterday, another live-painting took place at the Project Room by Jaybo aka Monk in Berlin. Two well-known artists, Augustine Kofie and El Mac, started painting in front of the crowd at 7pm and finished their artworks four hours later. It was gorgeous to watch them paint in their totally different styles and to be able to understand how they’re working. The huge count of small details in Kofie’s artworks and that great shadow-handling by El Mac made me and my friend happy. For that reason, I want to make those of you happy, who had no time to come to that interesting art event by showing you some photos (More on Flickr!) I took while the live-painting. ...
