In my eyes, Augustine Kofie is one of the of best graffiti dudes of our time. His close-knit to graffiti writing on the one side and architectural-inspired drafting concepts attracts not just me, but many people around the - I know that. My work is me! Back in 2011, Kofie was invited to paint at the Art Basel Miami event. During his painting progress, MTN got the chance to talk with him about his influences, ideas and his work in general. Exhibition | What I like about Augustine Kofie’s art is rather easy to explain - I like everything! The abstract forms, the colors, the way he creates his artworks, the astonishing details, etc. Recently his upcoming show, entitled “Retrofitted and Other Forms of Vintage Futurism”, at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco was announced. Almost two month ago, Los Angeles-based mural artist Augustine Kofie visited Berlin for a live-painting at Jaybo aka Monk’s Project Room. Kofie, who was born 1973, is internationally well-known for his amazing technically skills, he uses to create fantastic abstract paintings. Although his artworks only consist of simple geometrically shapes - exact lines and circles - and smooth colors, they seem to be rather complex and elegant. “The Qualities of Light” published an impressive artist profile about Augustine Kofie, in which he talks about his hidden preferences for collecting old things, his inspirational sources and first love, illustration. As mentioned yesterday, another live-painting took place at the Project Room by Jaybo aka Monk in Berlin. Two well-known artists, Augustine Kofie and El Mac, started painting in front of the crowd at 7pm and finished their artworks four hours later. It was gorgeous to watch them paint in their totally different styles and to be able to understand how they’re working. The huge count of small details in Kofie’s artworks and that great shadow-handling by El Mac made me and my friend happy. Today the time has come: Augustine Kofie will paint live at Jaybo’s project room in Berlin! After the away game in London some days ago, the project room will now open its doors in its familiar neighbourhood… Since 36 years, the urban artist Augustine Kofie creates mural artworks and pieces in the streets of Los Angeles. Although his street artworks count among graffiti it’s something more - they conbine elements of cubism, futurism and pop art and create in that way an unique style of abstract lines and design. Do you know Augustine Kofie? He is an US-American urban artist, who usually paints walls and creates mural artworks. I recently found a nice time lapse video of the making of one of his murals and thought, that you maybe are interested in taking a look at it. In this video, he paints a wall at an old church: “This former church has hosted many a late night event as well as a number of commercials and reality TV shows. The retaining wall is actually the buildings side stairs as well as a handicap ramp, so the shape wasn’t exactly square as most walls I paint are.
