# Banksy Revealed!

After eight years and several new layers of paint, Berlin-based artist **Brad Downey** and curator **Andrian Nabi** recently revealed an original **Banksy** mural!

The mural, entitled *Every Picture Tells a Lie*, which was created by the world’s most famous street artist in 2003 as a part of the legendary *Back Jumps Live Issue* festival in Berlin-Kreuzberg, shows five winged and smile-faced cops and is now part of the *What Lies Beneath* artwork by Downey, which belongs to the currently running *Do not think* exhibition at the Bethanien Arts Centre.

In my eyes this is just a great story and nice advancement in [Brad Downey’s graffiti restoration](/brad-downey-graffiti-restauration/) series...

**Update:**
As Sacha Martin just sent in, I should make clear, that Brad Downey’s piece for the *Do not think* exhibition is just the restauration of a previous Banksy piece in order to focus the attention on how commercial a part of the street art scene became in those 8 years since the original piece was first shown.

*It plays with the thin line in between the message and the image, the logo and the content, what is still alive in images and what is lying. Most of the press fell perfectly in the trap of taking it first degree and just name-drop a Banksy. There’s no Banksy in the show, Brad Downey’s piece is a reflection on one aspect of skateboarding culture and has to be understood in the context of the show.*

In my eyes Downey did a great job again! More on [vandalog.com](http://blog.vandalog.com/2011/09/brad-downey-verus-banksy-what-lies-beneath/)

The entire project is the creation of the Oxylane Art Foundation who mounted it in collaboration with the Kunstraum/Kreuzberg Bethanien. If you are curious to see more, visit the *Do Not Think* exhibition at Projektraum 1 (Bethanien), Mariannenplatz 2, 10997 Berlin.
