Chernobyl's Murals: Exploring Art in the Exclusion Zone

Last time I visited Czarnobyl’s studio in Kreuzberg, the Berlin-based street artist showed me some test and preparation works for a new series of stencil artworks. Finally he finished a few and uploaded some photos I just stumbled upon. The new series focuses on a great style-mix by combining rough backgrounds with multi-layered greyscale stencils, what makes the it transporting some heavy metal feelings, if know what I mean!? Czarnobyl is one of Berlin’s most famous stencil artists and describes his style as cyber-punk stencil art. I for one really like his new works, what do you think? ...

The last weekend was marked by the “United Colours” street art festival, which takes place in Berlin for the first time. Two workshops, one on graffiti characters and one on stencil art, called on to participate and the concept seems to work… The “United Colours” street art festival is a collaboration between the famous ATM Gallery and the RosengARTen in Berlin-Mitte and will run until the end of this week. They present a mixture of creative entertainment, do-it-yourself workshops with professional help by local urban artists and live-paintings. ...

Some months ago, he was part of the “Aerosol Fumes” exhibition, which presented almost the best Berlin-based stencil artist and now he has his own exhibition at ATM Gallery in Berlin - Yes, I’m talking about Czarnobyl, who lives and works in Berlin since 1993! Well influenced by the craziness of cyberpunk, house squatting and graffiti, his detailed stencil artworks combine motives of cyborgs, alternative people, abstract patterns and other strange things… ...

Yesterday, I visited the Pisa73 and Czarnobyl stencil art exhibition in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Although the shown artworks were really nice, they unfortunately were the same I already know from the “Aerosol Fumes” stencil art group exhibition… Nevertheless I took some shots, because Pisa73 and Czarnobyl are two of the most famous Berlin-based stencil artist and their artworks are well-known in Europe and overseas. Most notably is the great location. It’s called the “Nest” and it’s above a little nice café. It’s the same interesting location were the Streetfiles urban art photo show took place in November 2009. ...

Czarnobyl presents outstanding and extraordinary stencils art in his solo exhibition at Superplan Gallery in Berlin. Born 1974 in Poland, he lives and works in Berlin since 1993.
