Da Mental Vaporz: Graffiti Art Explored

Since 2011, the urban art festival Crimes of Minds invites different artists from different countries to the French city of Brest to paint some walls. Today, about 20 graffiti and street artists including C215, Jef Aérosol, Best Ever, Guy Denning, Da Mental Vaporz, Morten Andersen and many more followed their invitations and started to transform the city into an urban art museum. I already wrote a lot about the urban art festival Crimes of Minds, taking place in the beautiful city of Brest, France. Nonetheless, there is still a lot I haven’t featured yet. For that reason, I’ll hereby give you a more extensive overview about what happened during the last months Crimes of Minds… Crimes of Minds - The Festival Organised by well-known graffiti artist Liliwenn, Crimes of Minds started about a year ago with Best Ever and Ben Slow painting in the streets, went on with Morten Andersen, Fin DAC and Sly 2 and included the famous Da Mental Vaporz crew creating a fantastic mural! Since then a lot happened and Brest got more and more colorful. ...

As I already mentioned here, here and here French Da Mental Vaporz crew (DMV) is my most favorite European graffiti crew. Recently they came up with a beautiful behind the scenes video… The Crew Da Mental Vaporz was born in 1999 at the initiative of Bom.k and Iso in the Paris suburbs. Soon joined by Kan, they stand out by making huge frescoes in the sordid land of the southern suburbs, giving the most to topics outside the tradition of graffiti (hitherto confined to the sacrosanct lettering / comic book character bubbles). Thus, their productions, that can extend over tens of meters high and long, depict the monstrous madness, upholstery and imminent end of time. ...

French graffiti artists Sowat (DMV) and Lek, invited 40 urban artists to paint an abandoned supermarket in the north of Paris since they discovered the great, decayed building in summer 2011! Just to make it clear, imagine an old, four storey supermarket and dozens of talented graffiti artists who paint and paint an paint…and film the results! Including stuff by Apotre, Bims, Blo, Bom.k, Boyane, Brusk, Deap, Dem189, Fléo, Gris1, Hobz, Honda, Jayone, Jaws, Kan, Katre, Monsieur Qui, O’clock, Onde, Outside, Rems, Romi, Sambre, Seth, Siao, Skio, Smo, Spei, Swiz and Tcheko, the building has now become - similar to the Ghostvillage or Underbelly Project - an illegal artistic residency. ...

As I already told you, Europe’s finest Da Mental Vaporz (DMV) crew left France and is currently in Melbourne, Australia, exhibiting at Rtist Gallery and painting large murals as this brilliant clip by Matthew Harding shows… Nothing more to say, except: Well done boys! As I said, French fabulous graffiti crew Da Mental Vaporz (short just DMV) left their home-country with its artic weather conditions and presidential elections delirium to enjoy sunny horizons down under and started to create one of the most prolific exhibitions Melbourne has seen so far… The trailer speaks volumes - I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen such a high-quality one for a single graffiti exhibition, although Mr Doom got some pretty nice ones - and also the artworks, popping up for just a few seconds in this new review video are convincing me. ...

Famous Da Mental Vaporz (DMV) crew for example is heading to Melbourne… The prolific French graffiti crew Da Mental Vaporz is leaving France with its artic weather conditions and presidential elections delirium to enjoy sunny horizons down under. Armed with spraycans, the DMV crew consisting of Bom-K, Blo, Brusk, Dran, Gris1, ISO, Jaw, Kan, and Sowat are boarding the Australian continent with their individual style, from old school lettering to calligraffiti and figurative painting with a touch of dark humour. With monumental murals and exhibitions across Europe, Latin America, New York, Moscow or Hong-Kong, the Da Mental Vaporz crew members are both known collectively and individually. Recently Blo, Sowat, Dran, Bom.k and the rest of DMV finished spray-painting their new mural and because French photographer Awouell was around, I’m able to present you some first photos of the final piece. ...

During the last week, well-known French graffiti artist Blo, who is a member of the famous Da Mental Vaporz (DMV) crew, painted a huge new black-and-white mural in Berlin! After Caleb Neelon’s wall and the painting by Victor Ash, this is the third part of Berlin’s Wedding Walls mural art project. In my eyes, this monochromatic, 25 meters high piece totally works out with the old-school Berlin wall color (some kind of light beige-shit-brown) and is a new attraction in Berlin’s north! ...
