Documentary Films: Exploring Graffiti, Street Art & Urban Art

Madrid Street Art | As some of you already know, I visited Madrid this Spring at La Pluma Eléctri*k’s invitation. Chance brought it about that I got a new camera (which allows me to film in HD!) some days before the trip started, for what reason, I not just took some nice shots but played around with it during all the excursions through the Spanish capital! I ended up with several hours footage of our city walks and fantastic street artworks by Roa, Blu, Sabek, Astronaut, Nuria, Rallito X and many more… ...

Urban Art | Seems to be quite cold over there in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg at the moment! Nevertheless, the famous urban art duo Herakut hit the streets of this snowbound city and created, by assistance of the neighborhood kids, another huge mural in their well-known style of rough street-influenced lines and photo-realistic details… Although I didn’t master the Russian language, I somehow understood (by the help of a famous translation tool) that this mural was painted on a wall of the local protectory for children and that the corresponding documentation is part of an upcoming documentary about this children’s home, which is called “Our House”! ...

Phallic Street Art | When I first came in contact with the murals by Spanish street artist Rallito X I absolutely loved his crazy monster characters and the provoking slogans. Now he visited Berlin to produce Berlin’s phallic repolution… Imagine for a moment that you could change the world. That you are able to create a movement through art that makes you lose the sense of what is real and what is a lie. That is the mission we have sent to Rallito X. ...

City Documentary | Do you remember the ruins of Detroit, which are a paradise for urban explorers and artists from all over the globe? Right after I published that post I got a message by Bixentro from London, who informed me about a small documentary by Palladium Boots about the city of Detroit, in which Mister Knoxville himself explores abandoned areas and the new generation of creative people restructuring and reorganizing the public life… ...

Anti-Nazi Action | Irmela Mensah-Schramm is well known in Berlin for her effort against Nazi symbols, signs and slogans in public space. The 65 years old anti-fascist graffiti-grandma documents Nazi graffiti and stickers before she buffs them and is in that way a perfect example for modern anti-fascist work. Vincenzo Caruso and Fabrizio Mario Lussu are currently working on a video documentary called “The Hate Destroyer” about her work, the ideals and Nazi graffiti in general! ...

Street Art Documentary | London’s Brick Lane is something like the epicentre for creativity and young, modern life-style in London. Especially around the old Truman Brewery with its galleries, bars and markets a lot of the otherwise shy London street art can be found. With his upcoming street art documentary “Brick Lane in Art” film-maker Shafiur Rahman wants to sketch a creative portrait of this Europe-wide well-know street and its surrounding area. Therefore he interviewed several more or less famous street artists and other protagonists in in London, Paris, Berlin and Madrid. ...

Street Alphabet | Do you remember the photo-documentary I did of famous graffiti and street artist Ben Eine painting a wall for the Moniker Art Fair in London? While I took photos, East London based creative producer Abbie Brandon took some nice video footage and interviewed Ben. Now she finished her film about a weekend in Ben Eine’s life… The doc was filmed over a weekend (plus a Friday night before and some neatening up on the Monday). Ben was painting 2 walls - one being PRO PRO PRO on Ebor Street in East London - the other being CALCULATE on Hollywell Lane, also in East London. ...
