Art Festival: Immersive Street Art & Graffiti Events

Fin Dac in Brest As already mentioned, stencil artist FinDAC and abstract graffiti artist Morten Andersen currently painted at the Crimes of Minds urban art festival in Brest. Recently Fin published some first impressions of one of his murals and arouse in that way a burst of enthusiasm, for what reason I don’t want to withhold those photos from you! I met FinDAC first during my London-trip last year and was quite surprised when I got to know that I is - with good reason - a well-known stencil artist on the Isles, because I haven’t heard of him before. His mainly Asian-inspired stencil motives are characterized by really detailed handwork, sparkling shadows, complex patterns and a good pinch of freehand spray-painting - his brilliant Jimi Hendrix stencil artworks are good examples! ...

The last time I wrote about British urban artist Word To Mother was after my visit of his exhibition opening at Stolen Space Gallery in London. Now I just stumbled upon this dope video by Andrew Telling showing Word To Mother painting for the Fame Festival in Italy back in 2010. Born and raised in a small English seaside town, never far from a stoney beach, crashing waves and salty sea veterans. Urban Art Festival | After Best Ever and Ben Slow now highly talented London-based stencil artist FinDAC and well-known Berlin-based abstract graffiti artist Morten Andersen rock the city of Brest! It’s the second episode of the urban art festival “Crimes of Minds” which is organised by French graffiti artist Liliwenn and the non-profit organization Sugar Rush… The idea behind that event is to bring the creative flair of the big metropolises around the world to this small French town and to document the artworks as well as the artists at work and additionally the reactions of the citizens. For that reason there will be a book recapitulating the entire “Crimes of Minds” process! ...

Art Festival | This is an urban art Easter egg for you: The urban exploration team of go2know is currently organizing an urban art festival in an abandoned sanitarium near Berlin! The Artbase Grabowsee (how it’s called) will bring together street artists, urban art painters, musicians, DJ’s, VJ’s and light artists to create an amazing festival of creativity in an interesting location. There’s already a big line-up of local and international artists including for example 44flavours, Alias, Gogoplata, Herr von Bias, Irgh, Klub7, Prost, SP-38, Tika and many more! What I like is that the list is still open, for what reason you just have to drop them a message if you also would like to participate! The location seems to be big enough for some more artists and there’s also enough time to get everything done - the festival will take place on the first weekend in August… ...

Urban Art Festival | Do you remember the post about the French urban art event “Crimes of Minds”? The festival, organized by French graffiti artist Liliwenn finally started! The two British urban artists Best Ever and Ben Slow just started to paint some walls in the city of Brest and also Guy Denning is on his way to join this festival… The aim of this project is to push the boundaries of street art to eventually be integrated into contextual art. The artist works directly on the ground of reality bringing his world to it. The artistic expression will even be exposed in the heart of the city directly touching the public. Urban Photo Art | Berlin-based creative collective Mentalgassi, which is well-known for their fantastic paste-up installations, recently hit the streets of Spain and created some new amazing wheatpastings as a part of the Getxo Photo festival. Mentalgassi is a collective of three artists that was set in Berlin. They are engaged in urban intervetion, transforming urban elements using specially chosen images. Through their creative concept of turning “monotone cities” into places more fun, Mentalgassi has been in Getxo wheatpasting some bottle banks, making it more fun to go to recycle glass. Yesterday I received a nice e-mail by two French film-makers you informed me about their new urban documentary series “Streetosphere” about the surprising urban cultures in Europe. The first episode will take place in Paris. After that, many cities will be discovered in Europe. Each episode is 26 minutes long. We Discover the city with people who use the urban space to make insolite actions. We want to have a poetic approach in a dynamic program. (Sterenn Films) ...

Graffiti Artist in Action | Do you remember all the urban artists like Herakut or Ben Eine who did live paintings as a part of the Moniker Art Fair earlier this year? Another famous artist who painted at Village Underground was Hamilton Yokota aka Titi Freak! While the São Paulo-born graffiti artist created a colorful mural on one of these nice brick walls in East London, I took some photos of him in action.
