Howto Use Colour & Manipulate People

Almost a year after his collaboration show with Stormie Mills, famous abstract graffiti artist Remi Rough is back at Unit44 gallery in Newcastle and just shared some photos of his latest artworks for that recent solo-exhibition! Entitled How to use colour to manipulate people the show presents sculptural work and paintings, that are a big departure from his earlier graffiti paintings… The sculptural work is reminiscent of Serra, his lines and forced shapes brought to life as 3D objects in both wood and clay. ascending to a third dimension seems almost obvious with Remi’s work. Whilst Remi’s new paintings are more referential to his earlier work from 5 years ago, using bitumen and matt emulsion and still maintaining a tight narrative of tension which is a constant in his work. Good news for all urban-inspired artist who always wanted to exhibit their stuff in Berlin: Berlin’s finest Idrawalot Gallery and Showroom is hosting an art exhibition contest, rewarding the top three artists with a group show at Idrawalot Gallery later this year! Inside a Clemens Behr Installation

Last Friday, Berlin’s Neurotitan Gallery opened its doors for another nice group-exhibition entitled Simple is Rare, presenting diverse artwork by different urban-inspired artists like Herr Orm, K 110 and Robert Matzke, just to name a few… Although or probably because of this exhibition’s major topic was simplicity, it was the huge and very complex installation by Clemens Behr which dominated the show-room. By combining cardboard, tape, neon light, paint and wood his walkable and impressing tunnel-like architecture draw almost my entire attention. Utilising both the streets and gallery walls as his canvas, the artist is a master of the stencil turning away from their traditional anarchist use to challenge the norm through boldly heightened realistic figures. With fear and its manipulation as the underlying theme, his art channels a deeply disturbing voyeuristic experience for the viewer playing with spatial perception of the surrouding environment. Interview: Pure Evil London

Charles Edwards aka Pure Evil is not just artist and head behind renowned Pure Evil Gallery in London but also an important person in Europe’s urban art scene. Recently the online video magazine Spine TV visited his rooms for the latest issue of their Stolen Moments series and talked to him about his art, his history and how he got in contact with graffiti… In the 30s, Hitler was refused entry to Austrian art school twice. I would come back as the head of that college in the 30s and change that decision, and tell him his watercolours were totally amazing, and give him a place in art school so he would be a happy artist, and he would never get into politics and war. L’Atlas in Berlin - Action, Photos, Exhibition!

Urban Art Show | Famous French urban artist L’Atlas used, as some of you already know, the last couple of days to prepare some new artworks for his upcoming show at Skalitzers Contemporary Gallery in Berlin! For this new series L’Atlas combined stamping, painting and taping to create a new style of multi-layered abstract typography in black and white, which plays with the viewer… Seeking a universal form of urban communication, L’Atlas invents a new language for global mega-cities, a language of signs as much as words. Beginning with the tag in the early 1990s, L’Atlas went on to study Arabic calligraphy with classic and modern masters in Morocco, Egypt and Syria, taking particular inspiration from traditional Kufic calligraphy – the oldest calligraphic form of the Arabic scripts. […] The rectangular shapes of the Kufic script are applied to the Latin alphabet to create his own typography, in which he writes his name as a labyrinth.
