Above’s Street Art Philosophy
Philosophy Art | It seems, that famous street artist Above carries on to travel through Australia. After those flood stencil artworks in Brisbane, you can now find what I would call street art philosophy in Melbourne: More or less profound, large-scale fat-cap slogans on walls…
Slogans like “Losing all of your fortune is much less painful painful than losing only half of it!!!”, “Academia is to knowledge what prostitution is to love” or “Trust people who make a living lying down or standing up more than those who do so sitting down” encourage people to think, although or better because of the final sense seems to be not that clear…

Abstract Calligraphy by Matox
Urban Painting | Portuguese-French urban artist Nuno de Matos aka Matox (not to be confused with Pedro Matos!) won this year’s Urban Award for painting, for what reason I had the chance to take a closer look at his brilliant abstract calligraphy paintings in Berlin!
Nuno de Matos is inspired by art from wide variety of periods in human development: all the way from the days of cave-paintings to the scrawling street art of our fast-paced contemporary society. This evolution can be seen in the rich layering of acrylic, spray paint, and marker used to create these complex and fluid designs found in each unique modern art canvas. (fokal.com)

Comic Crash Graffiti Wall
Urban Comic Art | I love that great intervention which as recently done by urban artist Pantonio! He created a comic-related mural artwork after a car crashed into a concrete wall in the Portuguese capital Lisbon…
The comic style explosion graphics are cropped to the pieces left in the wall in such a way that one could wonder which came first the graffiti or the crash, or graffiti made with dynamite paint. (designboom.com)

Marker Fetish - Tag Tools
Marker Photo-Series | Yes, I love markers - I have to confess this! Especially my squeezers and also the biggest marker worldwide are super dope.
A marker pen, marking pen, felt-tip pen, or marker, is a pen which has its own ink-source, and usually a tip made of a porous, pressed fibres; such as felt or nylon. (Wikipedia)
Spanish photographer German Rigol recently extended his beautiful to look at marker photo-series for what reason there are round about 60 portraits of different, used and unique markers in his album now! It’s a must to see for all the marker enthusiasts or people who just like the used, dirty look of everyday objects.

Buffing Nazi Graffiti
Anti-Nazi Action | Irmela Mensah-Schramm is well known in Berlin for her effort against Nazi symbols, signs and slogans in public space. The 65 years old anti-fascist graffiti-grandma documents Nazi graffiti and stickers before she buffs them and is in that way a perfect example for modern anti-fascist work.
Vincenzo Caruso and Fabrizio Mario Lussu are currently working on a video documentary called “The Hate Destroyer” about her work, the ideals and Nazi graffiti in general!

Studio-Visit: Morten Andersen in Berlin
Graffiti Fine Art | Danish urban artist Morten Andersen, who is part of the London-based art label “Beautiful Crime”, started - as many well-known urban artists - his career on the streets as a graffiti artist. Since a few month, the originally Aalborg-based artist has a studio in Berlin and for that reason and because I really like his detailed and abstract artworks, I met him in his studio for a small photo-documentary…

Jet Fighter Graffiti by Phlegm
Military Graffiti | Although or better because of I don’t like military stuff - You could better say I hate it - I love that brilliant jet fighter graffiti!
Sheffield-based urban artist Phlegm recently hit an old and rusty Sukhoi Su-17 jet fighter somewhere in Wales and gave it a new nose painting! Now an archer with bow and arrow decorates the side of the old jet and a telescope supports the red star on the tailpiece…nice!

85 Years Aerosol Spray Can, Happy Birthday!
Spray Can Anniversary | Hey, 2011 is the year of the aerosol spray can! Back in 1926, the Norwegian professional chemical engineer and inventor Erik Rotheim submitted the patent application for the first spray cans in Norway and smoothed for that reason the way for the cans we know today!
Wikipedia knows more:
Prior to the issuance of the patent Rotheim had negotiated an agreement with Alf Bjercke’s paint factory in 1928, but commercial success was initially limited. The patent was sold to a US company for NOK 100,000. Commercial exploitation of the patent was not significant until it was introduced in the United States in the 1940s. After Rotheim’s death the technology made a significant advance with its incorporation into the airbrush.

Trash Lovers: Bulgarian Calligraphy
Trash Art | Under the slogan “Making it pretty for garbage men since 2009” a group of talented young Bulgarian calligraphers beautify bulky waste in the streets of Sofia.
In my opinion that’s what the original street art is all about: Pure urban art without any commercial attitudes, fun, friends and creative output. Armed just with markers the crew draws on every former worthless surface and prettifies in that way the streets of their city.
