Iemza - Abandoned Paintings

I love it to see paintings and other artworks at abandoned places like old factory sites or derelict ruins: The power and colorfulness of the artworks in contradistinction to the gray, grungy and lifeless buildings and walls.

When I saw photos of Iemza’s abandoned paintings the first time, I was really astonished! The French artist creates fantastic abstract creatures, which bring back life to their brown, gray and dirty walls:

“My characters’ limbs stretch, fly away, mix up. Shadows sigh and give way to despair. Bodies extend, twist and break themselves. My characters are distorted and tortured - they scream. The tightness of the chest, the tenseness and the stifling are the feelings they tend to express. I deform the characters’ bodies to express their despair, their differences.

There can be different levels of interpretation as far as the central character is concerned: Sometimes it encompasses, encloses, encircles the other characters who themselves, feel stifled and suffocated. Or this character with its huge arms meant to give hugs, finds himself squashed, worn out, tired by the others.” (Iemza on evolvingstyles.co.uk)
