Matt Adnate: Exploring the World of Urban Art

After his astonishing Point of View exhibition in Berlin, Australian urban artist, photo-realistic painter and writer Matt Adnate is going to open his Lost Culture show in Melbourne! Born and raised in Melbourne, Matt Adnate, has spent years traveling and painting the world. He has contributed to the scene through countless street art murals and exhibitions. As all of you already know, Australian graffiti artist Matt Adnate recently opened his Point of View show in Berlin and after my photo-series of his studio work, the Berlin Collective created this pretty nice documentary of the rest of his Berlin trip! As a graffiti artists I always had to work in the night, had to run around and I never really had the freedom to just paint. (Adnate) Combining nice footage and some statements by Adnate, the video gives some interesting insights into the artists world and explains why he likes to paint for galleries or in abandoned buildings. ...

Do you remember the photo-series I took of Australian graffiti artist Matt Adnate, when he painted new works for his Berlin solo-show? Last week, he finally opened the show at Box32 Gallery, simply entitled Point of View, and of-course I joined the party together with some friends and - in addition to some good drinks - took some quick photos… I’ve seen a lot of different faces in my travels of the past 6 months. From the eyes of kids that have lived the lives of adults in India, to people losing there faces in clubs in Berlin. ‘Point of View’ seemed like the perfect title for my show, as all of the faces in the show are my interpretations of people I’ve recently seen and met. Unfortunately I didn’t found enough time to write in the last days - I rather enjoyed this year’s probably last sunny summer days - for what reason I again give a brief overview about what happened in the international urban art scene during the last couple of days… Saber did a fantastic typographic, aerial attack on downtown Los Angeles by writing into the sky! Remember: Art is not a crime, but Los Angeles would like you to think it is! ...

Australian urban artist Matt Adnate is in Berlin right now, preparing new artworks for his upcoming solo-exhibition at Box32! He recently invited me to his studio… Born and raised in Melbourne Adnate, who is part of the AWOL crew, originally comes from plain letter-writing but started creating photo-realistic paintings and has also worked with larger than life canvases, wooden sculptures and mural works in the last years.
