Mode2: Explore the Iconic Graffiti Artist's Work

As I told you, the first solo-show by graffiti-legend Mode2 in Berlin opened its doors last Friday! Entitled Offerings the show presents a new series of canvas paintings, dedicated to the female body… Mode2 creates an atmosphere in which the viewer is being stimulated to think about their own sexuality and confront their own universes of associative conditioning. An offering from the artist to his viewers, if you may. Bringing together old Mode2-fans and fine art collectors, the well-frequented show bridged a wide range of different art enthusiasts with different backgrounds. Although famous graffiti-legend Mode2 already stayed in Berlin for a long time (a painted several impressing murals, e.g. at Schau Fenster Gallery and Jacki Terrasse), he still didn’t had a solo-exhibition in town - until now! Lucas Carrieri Gallery is going to exhibit a new series of paintings by Mode2 this Friday! Simply entitled Offerings, Mode2 presents large-scale paintings of the female body, drawn from a specific perspective… This perspectival point of view suggests that the female is significantly larger than the canvas, making her appear like a goddess. Underlining this position are the male figures in the paintings - much smaller than the female figure – that appear to be making offerings to the goddesses. ...

Graffiti legend and famous character-painter Mode2 did (as I mentioned before) a nice live mural art painting event at Schau Fenster Gallery in Berlin-Kreuzberg! Of course I joined this live painting event and took a few photos. Again it was impressing - not just for me but also for all the other visitors enjoying the characters becoming alive - to watch Mode adding his well-known dancing characters to such a big wall. ...

Mode2 is one of the most famous graffiti artists in Europe - his skills in bringing painted characters to live are well-known around the world. This is why I’m always happy to find one or another new mural he created in the last months in Berlin! Tomorrow, we all have the chance to watch him in action… As a part of the Radical Riddims exhibition opening at the Schau Fenster Gallery, a live art performance by Mode2 is planned. He will create a new mural painting! In my eyes this is a must to see for every urban art enthusiast. I will definitely try to catch up with him… ...

Mode2 is well-known around the world not just for that fantastic nude artworks, but for his amazing character styles he spread throughout Europe as one of the most central figures of European graffiti. In the last months I had the chance to see his latest works twice, first when he visited Berlin and second when painted under the Westway in London… Today I found that nice interview Kay One did with Mode2 in the great depth of my RSS feed reader and I highly recommend to read it, if you like to know more about the history of Mode2 and how graffiti connections were established 25 years ago… ...

As I mentioned some days ago, famous graffiti artist Mode2 painted live in Berlin yesterday! The outstanding artists created a great mural artwork at the “Jacki Terrasse” in Berlin and I was allowed to take some photos of the otherwise camera-shy artist and his doings… It was really great to see how easily he painted that rough wall just with brushes. The new wall now shows a collection of different rawish characters and creates for that reason a very comfortable urban atmosphere. The great thing about Mode2 and his mural artwork is, that he painted everything without having any sketch on paper or some thing like that…I was really impressed! ...

Mode2’s latest urban art series was about porn and nude people and I’m very curious to see whether he will also paint one of his amazing bold nude portraits this weekend at the “Jacki Terrasse” in Berlin… Mode2, one of the founding members of the Chrome Angelz, has struck a bridge from traditional graffiti and cartoon-like characters to realistic human figures. For that reason, his latest artworks, combining graffiti-inspired sketches and contemporary drawing art, were part of the “Post Graffiti Art” called exhibition at the Lucas Carrieri Art Gallery in Berlin! ...

Despite, or perhaps because of his traditional graffiti background (he is one of the most central figures of European graffiti), the Briton Mode 2 has developed an offshoot style of more traditional portraiture. His recent art installations consist of hand-drawn motives on cardboards. They thematize different themes like friendship, love and sex and often show daring nude scenes from the porn world.
