Actually the urban art event “Art Monument” (Turmkunst) should take place in Berlin today at 2pm, but unfortunately the organizers had to cancel it… As you maybe noticed, Ralf Schüler and Ursulina Schüler-Witte, the architects of the “Bierpinsel” tower, which should be repainted by the four famous graffiti artists Honet, Flying Förtress, KR and Sozyone, brought an action against the event. In their opinion the contemporary repainting of the tower by graffiti artists is incompatible to the futuristic architecture of the 70th. (Several German newspapers wrote about the dispute…) ...

Today I found that amazing audio/visual facade projection by Griduo in collaboration with Due3! It took place at the santralistanbul Art and Culture Center’s Main Gallery building located in Istanbul some month ago: “It is a live audio/visual performance composed of animated monochrome geometrical shapes matching the real size and form of the quadrilateral alluminium modules which form the facade of the building. ...

Some days ago, I got an nice e-mail by the “Living Walls Conference”, which is a conference on street art and urbanism and will take place the weekend of August 13 at the Eyedrum in Atlanta. I think, that sounds very interesting: “The idea is to put the work of a very small subset of the population (street artists, graffiti writers, etc), people who actually interact with space, under the same roof with people who spend their time in a discourse about public space. Our intentions are simply to broadcast to the attendees a wide spectrum of ideas about public space. We hope that everyone leaves the event looking at the city, its walls, and how we interact with space differently. ...

It seems, that New York based street artist WK Interact does not sleep. After his “How to Blow Yourself Up” skateboard exhibition in Los Angeles at the end of the last year, he pasted and painted a new mural artwork in Manhattan some days ago! The new urban mural artwork is a tribute to the American professional basketball player Dwyane Wade, who has established himself as one of the most well-known and popular players in the NBA. While planning, pasting and painting the D-Wade artwork, WK Interact was filmed. What arose from that is a very nice video with some very nice impressions of the snowbound New York City! I like it. ...

“New Type York” is a photoblog curated by New York based graphic designer James Patrick Gibson, who will periodically post shots of typographic details from the street s of New York City: The premise is simple: A daily archive of images of typographic artifacts all around New York City. Signs, directions and building inscriptions are all fair game. The goal: Amass a typographic personality of New York, by cataloging all of its memorable and beautiful pieces of typography. At this years beginning, I wrote about the spectacular graffiti project, called “700 Wall”, by famous graffiti artist MadC. Recently she published some new, grandiose sketches, which will be submittals for the eventual wall style. “The wall is extremely long, so I decided to do the concept like a pan in an animation with a lot of three-dimensionality to give the feeling of actually standing in the rooms. The point of view will be at about the real height when you’re standing in front of the wall and look up at it. ...

Here are some updates for the Art Monument event in Berlin: While Sozyone, Flying Fortress, Honet and Craig KR Costello will restyle the facade of the 46 meters high “Bierpinsel” tower in the center of Berlin this April, some other famous urban artists will exhibit inside the tower! Between April 1st and May 15th, Nils Kasiske, Form 76, Keramik, Mr. Nonski, Dave Decat, Stefan Strumbel, Dave the Chimp, Poch and Stak will present their artworks inside one of Berlins most prominent buildings. ...

Do you know Maclaim? It’s an very interesting urban fine art collective consisting of the four famous artists Case, Tasso, Akut and Typism. They are internationally well-known for their fantastic mixture of photo-realistic graffiti and modern typography. The history begins in 1999, when Akut, Case and Rusk started common projects. During the first two years the trio mainly met up in Weimar/ Germany. It was Rusk who first made contact between Case and Akut on one side, and Tasso on the other. For Akut, Case and Tasso it was easy to work together and to complement each other, as they had already focused on photo-realistic spraying irrespectively of each other. (About Maclaim) ...

Yesterday I met the Australian tape artist BUFFdiss. I was really happy that he had some time for a small session in one of Berlin’s most famous abandoned factories, the “Eisfabrik” in Mitte. If you are living in Berlin or if you have a foible for Berlin, you maybe know that the snow is actually thawing here. For that reason every wall we tried to tape was already wet… Any way BUFFdiss did a nice typo tape art piece and we drunk some beer and everything was fine, but I’m now on the search for some other tape artists around the world who will fight with us against the winter! ...

jose parla artwork Do you know José Parlá? Maybe some of you know him as Ease, what is his alias. He is a Brooklyn-based artist who is famous for his great wall-imitations and grandiose calligraphy paintings, which bring tagging to the next level. He always tries to capture the old, spray-painted spirit of the streets on canvas.
