Murals represent the most visible and impactful form of public art, transforming large wall surfaces into accessible galleries that serve diverse communities while beautifying urban environments. These large-scale works span the full spectrum of artistic expression, from photorealistic portraits and political commentary to abstract compositions and cultural celebrations.

Nunca, Berlin Wall Graffiti

As I already mentioned last week, some famous urban artists from all over the globe including McBess, Miss Van, Superblast, Dave the Chimp and also well-known Brazilian graffiti artist Nunca (who was part of the Tate Modern’s street art show in 2008) came together to create the temporary Berlin Wall Freedom Park by painting murals on several original wall segments from the former inner-German border. Last Thursday the opening-ceremony took place next to the Spree river, and because I arrived early, I had the chance to take some photos of and have a small chat with Nunca while spray-painting his wall! I’m a big fan of his very unique style and would love to welcome him back in town in near future… ...

Berlin Wall Freedom Park

After the big Write the Wall event which took place last year in Berlin, celebrating 20 years breakdown of the Berlin Wall, it’s the Berlin Wall Freedom Park which will be created in memory of the Berlin Wall building up 50 years ago! With Nunca, McBess, Miss Van, Superblast, Dave the Chimp, Lowbros, Thierry Noir, Choor Boogie, Kiddy Citny and Anton Unai the Dudes Factory presents eight famous urban artist who are going to paint murals on several original wall segments from the former inner-city border! ...

Shepard Fairey, Oslo Memorial

After visiting Copenhagen a few days ago, popular propaganda artist Shepard Fairey continues his Scandinavia tour and recently arrived in Oslo. To honour the victims of the terror of July 22, his staff created a huge memorial mural at Kirkeveien 59 communicating peace in bold letters! I don’t know whether it’s good being reminded of that tragedy every single day by a huge memorial, but detached from that Shepard Fairey established with that massive paste-up mural a new attraction in the city of Oslo. ...

Famous propaganda artist Shepard Fairey recently visited one of my favorite European capitals and did something I didn’t suspected! After all this paste-up installations he left behind in almost every bigger city around the world, he yet again painted a massive mural in Copenhagen! Shepard Fairey and the Obey crew beautify walls in and around Copenhagen. This particular peace dove mural was their first effort and located on Jagtvej 69, 2200 Nørrebro for those in town. Aryz, Huge in Italy!

One of my most favorite urban artists, the Spaniard Aryz, lately painted another huge wall - this time in the Italian city of Civitavecchia! I don’t think I have to say that much about that astonishing new mural artwork, its fantastic colors and size - just have a look and be impressed! - but it’s definitely worth to make some words about the artist! Originally born in California Aryz is now based in Barcelona and part of the fantastic MM Crew. Inspired by Os Gemeos, Sagüe, Roid, Dran, Popay, Mode2 and others he started painting large-scale characters being well-known around the globe! Mural Art: Irgh & Over/Under in New York

Berlin-lad and street artist Irgh and New York City’s street artist Erik Burke aka Over/Under recently teamed up in Staten Island, NYC for a painting session in an abandoned warehouse! Over/Under’s latest work can be seen in the book Street Art New York (2010), his solo exhibition Building on Building, Minneapolis, MN (2011), or on the streets of NYC whereas Irgh’s murals can mainly be found in decayed buildings and old factories in and around Berlin. ...

Roa Exhibition in Berlin - Photos

Famous for his large-scale depictions of animals on city walls around the world, Belgian urban artist Roa brings the creatures which inhabit the fringes of human society back to the metropolis. Recently Skalitzers Gallery opened its doors for his first solo-exhibition in Berlin, including again brilliant paintings, sketches and drawings of animals in his unique style… Of course I joined the opening ceremony, chatted with the man of the day, took some photos for those of you who can’t make it to visit the show and had some first insights into Roa’s first limited edition book Roa: An Introduction To Animal Representation by Mammal Press (Photos of the book will follow - I just can say it’s simply great!). Other good news is, that he will add some new animal murals to Berlin’s streets in the next days, be curious! ...

Roa Exhibition in Berlin

Yesterday, right after the doors of my exhibition opening closed, one of the currently most famous urban artists arrived in Berlin! Yep, Roa is back in town for his upcoming exhibition at Skalitzers Gallery… Simply entitled Transit, the show by the Belgian graffiti artist (his first solo-show in Berlin by the way!) includes new paintings presenting his internationally well-known graffiti animals!
