# P183, The Russian Banksy?

Is **Pasha 183** (also P183) the Russian **Banksy**? Since January, the international urban art scene debates about this controversial question...

P183 is a Moscow born and based multi media artist, whose work has recently received international coverage and acclaim. On January 31, 2012 the British [*Guardian*](http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/gallery/2012/jan/31/moscow-banksy-p183-in-pictures) published an online post about *Moscow’s Banksy* and his street art and started in that way an worldwide media campaign including internet-wide discussions about whether the British are going to declare each and every urban hacktivist or public intervention artist as a new Banksy...

*The British love their stars, and this is not an article about the Pasha. They needed an excuse to write another article about Banksy. It shows their feeling that "our Banksy is the coolest in the whole world to copy, we must never forget him and must honor our stars" — it is typical PR in the West.* (Misha Most)

I can remember a similar debate around Spanish interventional artist **Spy**, who was called the [*Second Banksy*](/new-urban-interventions-by-spy/) back in 2009, so this Banksy-equation thing is not new. Nevertheless, our friends on [partizaning.org](http://eng.partizaning.org) decided to address this rather absurd situation by highlighting some comments and interviewing P183 himself.

Check out what they got, it’s worth reading:
