The massive paint attack which took place two years ago at Rosenthaler Platz in Berlin, was one of the most impressing urban art interventions I’ve seen so far in town. Organized and executed by Dutch performance artist Iepe Rubingh and his team, the so-called Painting Reality project recently was the force behind a similar paint attack in Sao Paulo… Painting Reality in Brazil As a part of the Baixo Centro Festival which took place during the last week in Brazil’s biggest metropolis, a group of activists tipped out several buckets of colorful paint on a much used junction and started in that way the great process of an urban live painting, using cars, bikes and pedestrians as brushes, spreading the paint all over the streets! Again it’s just amazing to see how easily you can color your city and have a lot of fun. ...

In April, Berlin’s one and only sticker-museum Hatch Kingdom and illustrator Ink-a-zoid are going to present a group exhibition of the finest contemporary Berlin illustration styles! Presenting latest works not just by Danny Doom, Hr.v.Bias, Aro and Ink-a-zoid himself but also by other illustration-inspired artists, the show combines computer-generated artworks with dirt and coffee made ones and graffiti-influenced stuff. Hence, Modern Dopeness mirrors not just a current particle of Berlin illustration, but gives a insight into this new generation of mixed-media artists I already wrote about yesterday… ...

Telephone Helicopter Applause Gunshot is the name of a sweet electronic track by Lorenz Rhode, who says his music sounds like Rick James dating Chaka Khan, dancing to Daft Punk and Technotronic, making sweet love to a Stevie Wonder ballad, when suddenly a group of German robots and a Yellow Magic Orchestra come rushing into the hotel suite and… they all decide to go to France instead. But today it’s not about his music, but about Anne Lucht’s fantastic Space Invader-inspired Telephone Helicopter Applause Gunshot video, which is nominated for the German AAA (Academy Approved Art) Web-Video Award (which will be selected tomorrow) and was decorated with 13 Visual Music Awards 2011… ...

The guys, who invented the biggest marker worldwide and created their own graffiti mobile known under the popping name Everfresh, just teamed up with a couple of friends to repaint Melbourne’s infamous ACDC Lane for charity… Zoos Victoria is fighting extinction and has committed to ensure twenty native species do not go extinct on their watch. Enlisting the help of laneway artists from Everfresh and Blender studios, the fight has taken to the streets. The murals will help to raise awareness of some of these critically endangered species, many of which live right in Melbourne’s own backyard. For more info zoo.org.au! ...

Wow, this urban artists collaboration between urban design crew 44flavours and our personal hero, 3D cardboard installer Clemens Behr is like really hot sauce dripping through these rough beats of the same video… The urban illustration duo as well as Clemens (I decided to put him on my top urban artists list!) are both part of a certain new urban artists generation in Berlin, pushing forward new styles, and spreading especially their love for mixed media artworks. Valencian urban artist Vinz is going to open his first solo show in Austria in two days! Vinz, whose life-sized wheatpastes can be found in the streets around the globe, was recently part of a group show currated by the founders of Wooster Collective, and exhibited at Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York. In his works he usually combines humor and politically charged messages and uses nude male and female figures as a symbol of freedom, which is why they normally attract much attention… ...

Martin Hawkes and his video team filmed famous German urban art duo Herakut while painting a pretty nice mural in Stavanger on the west coast of Norway! The mural, which shows a girl and a couple of monkey in that popular mixture style of photo-realistic graffiti and damn rough painting, was part of the Nuart Festival and was built in 2011… Nuart is an annual international contemporary street and urban art festival established in 2001. From the first week of September an invited international team of street artists start to leave their mark on the city’s walls, both indoor and out, creating one of Europe’s most dynamic and constantly evolving public art events. UR{BNE} Films is an urban design and architecture film festival, coming up in Brisbane this May and in London this June! The main intention behind this very interesting project is to showcase films that inform and inspire about urban design, architecture, public spaces and collaborative design process, where communities and city design can be the subject, the background, the actor and lead role in the wide mixture of feature films, documentary and shorts… ...

For month now, the boys and girls of Cave Berlin are hardworking to make it possible to open the new, but still secret gallery space near Rosenthaler Platz in Berlin for the public. Now I heard that it’s probably April 27th, when Cave is going to open their three art spaces to the public, showing five artists and their works… But until then, there’s still lots of work to be done, as James Bullough and Addison Karl (JBAK) just showed when they painted this new collaboration mural in the Cave’s backyard, combining their contrasting styles into a mashup of antonyms: realism vs. illustrative, expressive vs. precise, hard vs. soft, black vs. a spectrum… ...
