Mode2 Solo-Show, Berlin

Mode2 Solo-Show, Berlin

As I told you, the first solo-show by graffiti-legend Mode2 in Berlin opened its doors last Friday! Entitled Offerings the show presents a new series of canvas paintings, dedicated to the female body… Mode2 creates an atmosphere in which the viewer is being stimulated to think about their own sexuality and confront their own universes of associative conditioning. An offering from the artist to his viewers, if you may. Bringing together old Mode2-fans and fine art collectors, the well-frequented show bridged a wide range of different art enthusiasts with different backgrounds. Of course I took a couple of photos for those who couldn’t make it to Berlin… ...

London Graffiti - Leake St Tunnel

London Graffiti - Leake St Tunnel

London-based photographer Brian David Stevens just informed me about his latest project: Documenting writers at the well-known Leake St Tunnel in London! At the moment this graffiti-photography series includes some quite nice, contrasty snap-shots, focusing not the finished piece but the artists and their equipment… Leake St Tunnel, also known as Banksy tunnel, was initially decorated with graffiti during the Cans Festival back in 2008. Since then it’s legal to paint inside the tunnel, for what reason it attracts a lot of London-based writers and tourists. ...

Eurocultured is a series of street festivals and linked projects that celebrate the diversity of European Culture in all its forms. After its great success in Manchester back in 2010, it took place in the Finnish city of Turku earlier this year and again brought together urban dance, live music, DJ sets, hip hop theater, various action sports and graffiti artists from all over Europe, like Nychos, Mr. Jago, Elph and others! Recently, Spearfish published their Eurocultured Retrospective video documentary, exploring the festivals origins and unique delights featuring live performances from Balkan Beat Box, Sleeping Giants, Riot Jazz, Bad Ass Brass Band, KKC Orchestra and Dr Mahogany’s’ Goat Circus, as well as interviews with some of Europe’s top graffiti artists Aryz, Mr Kern, Bue, Turkesa and many more. ...

Mode2 Offerings in Berlin!

Mode2 Offerings in Berlin!

Although famous graffiti-legend Mode2 already stayed in Berlin for a long time (a painted several impressing murals, e.g. at Schau Fenster Gallery and Jacki Terrasse), he still didn’t had a solo-exhibition in town - until now! Lucas Carrieri Gallery is going to exhibit a new series of paintings by Mode2 this Friday! Simply entitled Offerings, Mode2 presents large-scale paintings of the female body, drawn from a specific perspective… This perspectival point of view suggests that the female is significantly larger than the canvas, making her appear like a goddess. Underlining this position are the male figures in the paintings - much smaller than the female figure – that appear to be making offerings to the goddesses. ...

Berlin-Ostkreuz Documentary

Berlin-Ostkreuz Documentary

Ostkreuz station is was one the tradition-richest train stations in Berlin. With its (rusty) structural steelwork, old brick-built houses, fantastic stairs and other architectural peculiarities Ostkreuz was the mother-of-all old-school interchange stations in the Eastern part! Since winter 2007/08 it’s now under construction - the plan is to build another ugly glass palace station - for what reason it’s just superb for me to get the chance to look back and enjoy the old days by watching the nice Ostkreuz documentary by Laura Geiger and Tom Kretschmer who filmed Ostkreuz’ everyday-life between 2005 and 2007. ...

Rero, La Jarry, Paris

Rero, La Jarry, Paris

I just received an e-mail by well-known French urban artist Rero, who informed me about a ruthless initiative by the city of Paris, who plans to break down the beautiful La Jarry, an old, huge and crazy building near Paris, which is used by many artists as studio and exhibition space… To escape of this tragic end, several artists organised the exhibition-series Saving La Jarry, which also includes a work by Rero, who was invited to paint one big word on the huge facade: the crossed out letters PARADIGM! Rero describes it as follows: ...

Karl Addison & James Bullough, Mural in Berlin

Karl Addison & James Bullough, Mural in Berlin

Urban artists Karl Addison and James Bullough recently finished their new purple mural art works in Berlin! Curated by Etsy and in between the heart of Kreuzberg, the mural shows an elderly women by Addison - the idea of life, inspiration and history - and Bullough’s trademark arrows and combines in that way energy and life-experience. As James informed me yesterday, in addition to this funny mural there’s also a nice video they just put together, which documents the entire project. For that reason I’m able to share this three minutes mural art documentary with you! Seems they had a lot of fun… ...

Reclaim the Streets - Parking Day 2011

Reclaim the Streets - Parking Day 2011

Park(ing) Day is an annual, worldwide event that invites citizens everywhere to transform metered parking spots into temporary parks for the public good. This year’s Parking Day will take place - as I just read on Urbanshit - tomorrow, September 16th! That means, that you all have to take your camp-chairs, some turf, and probably some barbecue equipment to reclaim the streets and public space by reusing parking bays… Since 2005, Park(ing) Day has grown rapidly. The 2010 event included more than 800 Park installations in more than 180 cities on six continents. From Iran to Madagascar, Venezuela to South Korea, the project continues to expand to urban centers across the globe, and participants have broadened the scope of PARK installations to fulfill a range of unmet social needs. ...
