After eight years and several new layers of paint, Berlin-based artist Brad Downey and curator Andrian Nabi recently revealed an original Banksy mural! banksy revealation The mural, entitled Every Picture Tells a Lie, which was created by the world’s most famous street artist in 2003 as a part of the legendary Back Jumps Live Issue festival in Berlin-Kreuzberg, shows five winged and smile-faced cops and is now part of the What Lies Beneath artwork by Downey, which belongs to the currently running Do not think exhibition at the Bethanien Arts Centre. ...

Herakut Book: After The Laughter

Herakut Book: After The Laughter

After The Laughter is the title of the second, upcoming book by publisher Publikat about one of my favorite urban art duos Herakut. Telling the story behind their stories, the hand-made scrapbook with 240 fully collaged pages on which Hera and Akut share the good sides and the bad from the second half of their collaboration years (2009 to 2011) includes not just fantastic insights into their creative process and details of their great artworks, but also - and I’m really happy about that - some of the photos I took, documenting their mural in London! ...

The Alex Diamond Mining Company

The Alex Diamond Mining Company

End of last month, The Alex Diamond Mining Company exhibition opened at Vicious Gallery in Hamburg, presenting new artworks, like woodcut prints and installations, by Alex Diamond! Because I’m a fan of Diamond’s genderless, ageless and nation-less characters, I really enjoyed the superb photos Jo Fischer took during the opening and the nice video, documenting the creation process of the woodcuts… I’m pretty sure it’s worth to go and visit the still running exhibition, before it closes september 17th! Agents Of Change: 3 Kings

Agents Of Change: 3 Kings

Back in April 2011, Remi/Rough and System from Agents Of Change crew painted a large scale mural commemorating three influential graffiti-kings: Dondi, Jean-Michel Basquiat and RammellZee! I think they did a good job and although in my eyes it’s quite hard to decide who is worth commemorating it’s a nice step into the right direction, because it’s actually respect and recognition what’s sometimes missing in today’s so-called urban art scene… For more info about Agent of Change, visit agents-of-change.co.uk. Girls on Bikes, Isolated Spaces, a Week in Paris & Gallery Openings

Because of my trip to this year’s IBUg urban art festival I wasn’t able to write about the latest street art and graffiti action, for what reason I’m going to give you a brief overview about what happened during the last days around the globe… The Photo is by Shok-1 by the way, who is a member of the Urban Artcore group on Flickr! Brad Downey and Akay visited the Italian Fame Festival and for example deleted some ugly cars in downtown Grottaglie… ...

Yarn-Bombing Berlin: Moneyless, Hottea & Spidertag

Yarn-Bombing Berlin: Moneyless, Hottea & Spidertag

Several weeks ago, a well-known manufacturer of sports equipment invited four yarn-addicted urban artists to Berlin for the making of a new commercial spot. Nevertheless it seems that Moneyless, Hottea, Spidertag and Aimee Dymond had some fun bombing the city with their thread-art which was mainly created in Kreuzberg! Unfortunately I had no time to take some photos of the finished street artworks… While watching please keep in mind that this is some kind of viral marketing - They got paid to wear those clothes! ...

Berlin Dynamic - City Portrait

Berlin Dynamic - City Portrait

Berlin is a very dynamic city - everyone who already had the chance to come to this town knows that. To catch this flowing Berlin spirit and to deliver some brilliant impressions from the street of the German capital, Matthias Makarinus (who also did the abandoned places in Berlin series and captured the snow in Berlin) started to create a new and astonishing video 16 months ago! Dynamic light, clouds, street life, movement and much more. Shot from May 2010 - September 2011… ...

Herakut Mural - CityLeaks Festival

After the Blu mural, also the famous urban art duo Herakut recently painted a new mural as a part of the CityLeaks festival in Cologne! Although the majority of you will be not able to understand the interview they did (don’t ask me why it’s not subtitled…), the video gives some nice insights into the creation-process and is for that reason worth watching… If you like to see some more of Hera and Akut in action, check out the installation they did in Newcastle, their mural in Yekaterinburg or the live-painting in London! I for one can’t get enough of their rough but also detailed style… ...
