Nunca, Berlin Wall Graffiti

Nunca, Berlin Wall Graffiti

As I already mentioned last week, some famous urban artists from all over the globe including McBess, Miss Van, Superblast, Dave the Chimp and also well-known Brazilian graffiti artist Nunca (who was part of the Tate Modern’s street art show in 2008) came together to create the temporary Berlin Wall Freedom Park by painting murals on several original wall segments from the former inner-German border. Last Thursday the opening-ceremony took place next to the Spree river, and because I arrived early, I had the chance to take some photos of and have a small chat with Nunca while spray-painting his wall! I’m a big fan of his very unique style and would love to welcome him back in town in near future… ...

Bien Urbain, Street Art Festival

This September, the Bien Urbain street art festival is going to bring famous urban artists like Escif, Sam3, Moneyless, Nelio, Ox, San and others to the French city of Besançon! Bien Urbain will contribute to make people realize the power of art on our everyday life perception on museums, theaters or clubs, and also on the streets! The aim of the Bien Urbain festival is to question everybody about the usage of public space, with Where is the place for art when ads and grey walls are everywhere? and How to enjoy public spaces then? as key-questions… Sounds interesting and also the artist line-up includes some of the latest street art heroes, which is why I’m very curious to see some first photos of the prepared street artworks! ...

Abandoned Places in Berlin

Abandoned Places in Berlin

Berlin is well-known for its abandoned places and for that reason a great playground for urban explorers! My first post about abandoned places in Berlin featured the old Bärenquell brewery in Schöneweide and the old ice fabric in Mitte. Today I’m going to introduce you to some other, decayed buildings in and around Berlin and a nice urban exploration blog… Abandoned Olympic Village Half of the village which was built for the 1936 Olympic Games near Berlin (Elstal, Wustermark) can still be visited (they other half was kept in good condition and is some kind of a museum nowadays) and although the trip takes some time it’s definitely worth to go! ...

Augmented Reality Tagging - iPhone App

Augmented Reality Tagging - iPhone App

Augmented Reality is a trendsetting modern technology which has been permanently further developed in the last years. Now there’s a first iPhone app which allows augmented reality tagging the streets: Adorn everything and anything, even those buildings you never thought possible to tag. (about Street Tag) Street Tag turns your iPhone into a spray-can and makes it not just possible for you to virtually spray-paint walls in real time without fearing arrest, but also to share and showcase your tagged walls with others! The highlight: Due to geo-tagging technology and its augmented reality feature, the Street Tag app enables others to see your artworks at the exact place you painted them… ...

Matt Adnate, Studio-Visit

Australian urban artist Matt Adnate is in Berlin right now, preparing new artworks for his upcoming solo-exhibition at Box32! His latest urban artworks combine the rough nature of spray-painted tagging styles and the fineness of portrait-painting and can also be found in some abandoned areas in and around Berlin! ...

Clemens Behr, NY Cardboard Installations

Clemens Behr, NY Cardboard Installations

Using simplest materials to create complex ephemeral architectures German urban artist Clemens Behr is probably a new star in the world of abstract urban art. In June, he went on an excursion to New York City to create several uncommissioned public installations in East Village, China Town, Soho and Brooklyn… I really like this stuff for two reasons: First, using simple materials like cardboard, tape or paper to create impressing artworks is just great. Second, his abstract installations break up the usual city architecture and the urban every-day landscape! ...

Graffiti Wars: Banksy vs. Robbo

Graffiti Wars: Banksy vs. Robbo

Ha, right after I posted about Banks’s upcoming Antics Roadshow I spotted another hot program tip for this weekend: Graffiti Wars is an urban art documentary examining street art and graffiti, and the creative tensions and conflicts within this artistic arena. It’s the story of the ongoing Banksy vs. Robbo battle…Just remember the RIP Street Art exhibition Robbo did last year… At street level a bitter war is being waged between graffiti writers, street artists and the authorities. While graffiti writers face trial and prison sentences for their art, some street artists’ work is lauded and protected behind Perspex. ...
