Invited by famous UK-based artist Hush, Hera and Akut painted an entire room in not more than three and a half day. The clue, the room has been open for the public just for one evening earlier this month! ...

Abstract Graffiti: Graphic Surgery & Nawer in Krakow

Abstract Graffiti: Graphic Surgery & Nawer in Krakow

Wow, this new abstract graffiti wall and installation I just stumbled upon on Graffuturism (one of my new favorite blogs by the way!) is nothing but mind-blowing! Graphic Surgery and Nawer, two stars of the international abstract graffiti art scene, recently got together to paint that mixture of 2D and 3D lines at the Bang Bang Kindergarten in Krakow… This pretty collaboration is not just great because of the intense, fluorescent neon color and the resulting huge contrast, but - and that’s really dope - because of the nice combination of a flat wall and a 3D swing! I would have been great to visit such a cool kindergarten as a kid! Here are some flicks by Nawer: ...

Australian Urban Artists: Meggs, Lister & Kid Zoom

A few weeks ago the VNA crew teamed up with itdrewitself (you know, the dudes who recently visited Ron English in his studio!) to present three Australian urban artists painting in a derelict warehouse and chatting about their work… Being linked by being not just Australians and also renowned artists but by independently visiting the UK in June, Meggs, Anthony Lister and Kid Zoom painted a face in their unique styles and created in that way a nice collaboration-wall in London. ...

Outer Space Tag, Abstract Graffiti, Urban Hacking, Sculptures & Political Action

Because I had a lot to do for university this week I didn’t had that much time to write. Nevertheless I collected some interesting urban art news during the last days, which is why I’m able to give you an more or less detailed overview about what happened on the streets around the world. Here’s what I wasn’t posting about while I was busy writing scientific papers for different professors… ...

Street Art Strategies

Street Art Strategies

Since I stumbled upon the mega-dope What The Fuck Is My Street Art Strategy? thing over on Ektopia I can’t stop wasting my time by clicking through the great street art strategy advises… Making up street art strategies so you don’t have to! (about Art-Fag) If you already did a cutting satire of McDonalds because frankly you’ve always preferred Burger King anyway, you should probably try to do any form of street art with money as your primary motive, or just do something anti-consumerist on your Apple computer because it’ll be fucking hilarious! ...

Spree Parade Against Mediaspree

Spree Parade Against Mediaspree

Yesterday, July 16th, 2011 thousands of Berliners demonstrated, danced and raved again against gentrification and especially the so-called Mediaspree project in Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg! Also Urban Artcore teamed up with the crowd to protest against rising rents, luxury new buildings on former free spaces, ruthless investors and unsocial city politics… Mediaspree is one of the largest property investment projects in Berlin. It aims to establish telecommunication, media and fashion companies as well as hotels along a section of the banks of the river Spree as well as to implement an urban renewal of the surrounding area. But that’s against the will of the citizens who don’t want Berlin’s riverside becoming a luxury glass and concrete area like in London or Paris but keep at least the last available free spaces along the Spree! ...

Interview: Pure Evil London

Interview: Pure Evil London

Charles Edwards aka Pure Evil is not just artist and head behind renowned Pure Evil Gallery in London but also an important person in Europe’s urban art scene. Recently the online video magazine Spine TV visited his rooms for the latest issue of their Stolen Moments series and talked to him about his art, his history and how he got in contact with graffiti… In the 30s, Hitler was refused entry to Austrian art school twice. I would come back as the head of that college in the 30s and change that decision, and tell him his watercolours were totally amazing, and give him a place in art school so he would be a happy artist, and he would never get into politics and war. (Pure Evil) ...
