Urban Art | Seems to be quite cold over there in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg at the moment! Nevertheless, the famous urban art duo Herakut hit the streets of this snowbound city and created, by assistance of the neighborhood kids, another huge mural in their well-known style of rough street-influenced lines and photo-realistic details… Although I didn’t master the Russian language, I somehow understood (by the help of a famous translation tool) that this mural was painted on a wall of the local protectory for children and that the corresponding documentation is part of an upcoming documentary about this children’s home, which is called “Our House”! ...

Urban Painting | Portuguese-French urban artist Nuno de Matos aka Matox (not to be confused with Pedro Matos!) won this year’s Urban Award for painting, for what reason I had the chance to take a closer look at his brilliant abstract calligraphy paintings in Berlin! Nuno de Matos is inspired by art from wide variety of periods in human development: all the way from the days of cave-paintings to the scrawling street art of our fast-paced contemporary society. Graffiti Exhibition | I’m pretty sure no one will argue with me when I say that German writer MadC is probably the most famous female graffiti artists of our time. After she finished that huge graffiti wall at the end of last year, show is now going to have her first UK solo-show in the rooms of one of my favorite gallery! Mural Art | At the end of this month, the urban art project “Wedding Walls” will start to let six internationally well-known urban artists recreate some huge walls in Berlin’s north! Currently Wedding is becomming an increasingly more popular area for Artists, students and entrepreneurs. Administrated by the French and surrounded by the Berlin Wall on three sides, the area changed drastically after the fall of the Wall. Due to the cheap rent and access to both the Ring Line, and the U-Bahn, this once detached district is begin noticed as a great location to both live and work in. ...

Street Art | Italian stencil art duo Orticanoodles recently published photos of their latest stencil art series, which could easily been described as next level stencil art with a nice liability to absurd pop styles. The overlaying topic of theses new works, including artwork titles like “Pop Never Die”, “Skate or Die” or “Pop Uber Alles” (showing Mr. A. Hitler), seems to be death or dieing in general. Orticanoodles, who had their first Paris solo-show about a year ago, light with their new stencil artworks a beacon of hope that stenciling also improves itself and doesn’t has to be similar stuff again and again reproduced… ...

Right after I published the post about “Urban Art vs. Ad World”, another big anti-advert action took place in Spain! Around 100 urban artists from all over the world, including 3ttman, Bronco, El Tono, Jerm IX, Know Hope, Ludo, Luzinterruptus, Rero, Skount, Various & Gould and others, joined the “Madrid Street Advertising Takeover” (MaSAT) which recently took place in the heart of the Spanish capital. For that reason, Madrid is now able to get in line with cities like New York and Berlin, were similar events happened before… ...

Urban Contamporary Art | Although I follow the urban art gallery scene for years now, I never noticed the alternative urban contemporary art gallery “Galeria Autonomica”, which is taking place on April 7th in an so-called off-location (a loft appartment) in the city of Munich… Galeria Autonomica shows and collects contemporary, urban art in any form. All the different trends, defining the urban art idea, including street art, graffiti, illustration and hybrid forms, are the focus areas of each exhibition. There’s no commercial orientation, just the focus on young subcultural positions has priority. The urban environment is the main source of inspiration of all exhibiting artists. Character Art | In two days, the next big art-event for fans of characters and contemporary art will take place in Berlin! As a part of this year’s “Pictoplasma Festival of Contemporary Character Design & Art”, the “Pictoplasma Character Walk” will showcasing the wealth and diversity of today’s characters by connecting 25 selected galleries, project spaces and hidden locations in Berlin-Mitte! It’s the official kick-off event of Pictoplasma 2011 and is taking place on Wednesday, the 6th, starting from noon, with many of the locations celebrating their welcome receptions in the early evening. ...
