Urban Art Show | As already mentioned in the street art news review, Swiss urban artist Tika recently opened her exhibition, the so called Tikathek, at Skalitzers Gallery in Berlin. Urban artists versus the ad world is some kind of a neverending story. One one hand site there are artists taking over billboards, some who replace ads with their own posters, others copying special advert-campaign styles to combine them with their own style and still others who just modify existing poster ads… On the other site, there are artists creating whole advertising campaigns for multinational companies and also viral media in urban contexts is no curiosity any more. But what’s worst than this is when ad agencies start to copy entire, well-known concepts for their own interests! ...

Urban Art Mag | A couple of weeks ago, I received a small package from my friends in London, including the latest issue of the urban art magazine “Very Nearly Almost” (VNA)! It’s the 14th issue and again it includes a lot of interesting interview with a lot of interesting urban artists as well as nice photos from the streets of London and Miami. This time, the VNA team interviewed Sickboy, Pedro Matos, Doze Green, Voina, Dick Chicken, Mobstr and some others, which seems to be a nice, varied collection of more or less well-known, but very talented artist… ...

Sticker Art Show | Do you remember the last “Oversized & Underpriced” charity sticker art show in Berlin? If not, here’s a small reminder… …back in 2009, the one and only sticker museum around the globe, the Hatch Kingdom in Berlin, organized a fantastic show of customized classical German “Päckchen” stickers, which were auctioned. The benefit has been donated to two charity projects! Now, in 2011, the third round of the “Oversized & Underpriced” series is at the ready! About 50 (in words fifty) urban artists, including Base23, Czarnobyl, Dave the Chimp, Emess, Flying Förtress, Pisa73 and many more, customized oversized prints of the legendary US Postal sticker! ...

Street Art News | Because of the Fukushima and Madrid posting break, I just came up with the idea to give you a small overview about what happened in the international street art and graffiti world in the last couple of days. Therefore I collected the top urban art news I stumbled upon while zapping through my RSS feed reader. Madrid Street Art | As some of you already know, I used the announced posting break to travel to Madrid to have some relaxed days with friends and to have a look at what’s going on in the Spanish capital. Although the weather hasn’t been as good as desired we explored large parts of the city, especially around Tirso de Molina, Sol, Calle de Atocha and Chueca, visited the Museo Reina Sofia to have a close look at Picasso’s masterpiece “Guernica”, took the “Teleférico” (a cable car), visited the great “Tabacalera” art space and of course discovered a lot of great street artworks by Nuria, Sabek, La Pluma Eléctri*k, Blu, BR1, Roa, Rallito X and many more! ...

Nuclear Disaster | As you all know, there’s one part of the world which currently experiences one of the worst things which could ever happen. Right, I’m talking about the nuclear-tsunami-earthquake disaster in Japan. Recently Japan has raised the alert level at a stricken nuclear plant from four to five on a seven-point scale (the nuclear disaster from Chernobyl is the reference value!), which means that there’s no surprise turnaround on the horizon! For that reason and to show my sympathy with all the victims and missing persons I will stop writing posts on Urban Artcore for one week - For me it’s something like a week of silence! ...

Urban Art Festival | “Crimes of Minds” is a massive urban art event which takes place in the beautiful French city of Brest. Organised by well-known graffiti artist Liliwenn (Right, that’s the girl I photographed at the “Meeting of Styles” in London!) 17 famous urban artists like for example Herakut, Best Ever, C215, Morten Andersen, Indigo, Jef Aérosol, Ben Slow, FinDAC, Sly2 and others will paint almost the entire city center and celebrate hereby one of this year’s most interesting urban art parties! ...

Photo Magazine | Do you remember the new urban magazine Uebergrund by Sebastian Linck? A short time after I posted my review, the first issue was almost sold out! Now, the second issue has been published and again Sebastian was so kind to send me his new urban photo mag… In Uebergrund 2 everything is about the underground, for what reason the mag includes nice shots of subway tunnels, basements, catacombs and other dark places in Darmstadt, Lisbon, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Berlin. With this issue, Sebastian is following the trend of urban exploring and created a nice, small work which is a must to have for all who love abandoned places and the underground! ...
