Graffiti Research Lab Germany

Light Art | As a part of the urban art festival “Street Lab”, the Berlin-based branch of the infamous Graffiti Research Lab (GRL) put up not just more than 350 LED throwies at Kottbusser Tor but also did a great blitzTag action at Moritzplatz! GRL Germany presents blitzTag, a brand new Laser Tag software, with a whole suite of new features. You are invited to as yet undisclosed location, to bomb urban space with massive light based graffiti. blitzTag is not meant to replace the grand tradition of physical graffiti, it is an alternative open source tool – for urban communication in the digital age. Bristol Weekend-Trip

Bristol Weekend-Trip

City Trip | Hey folks, I’m just back from the nice British west coast city of Bristol! After some sunny days with greasy food and a lot of beer I’m glad about being back in Berlin fuckin’ town! Although Bristol is, compared to other cities I visited so far, quite small, it’s good enough for a weekend-trip especially because the routes are short and therefore everything is within walking distance… ...

Poet & Arunski - Abstract Tagging

Poet & Arunski - Abstract Tagging

Fine Lines Series | Well-known writers and members of the infamous GFA crew, Poet and Arunski opened their abstract tagging exhibition last weekend at Skalitzers Gallery in Berlin as a part of the galleries “Fine Lines” exhibition series, exploring the role of tagging within contemporary art! I went there mainly to take some shots and to have a look whether Poet and Arunski had the power not just to reproduce one of those Cope2-like tag on canvas shows, but creating something different. And I have to say, they did it… ...

Mr. Brainwash Gets Protection

Mr. Brainwash Gets Protection

Street Art Protection | For some time now, there’s a more or less big discussion running around the world, why street artworks should be protected, who decides which one is worth protecting. After everybody’s darling and super-duper street art hero Banksy, we now have another artist (?) whose works moved up the ladder and are now worth protecting… As the Melrose & Fairfax blog for street art in Los Angeles wrote, it’s no one else than Mr. Brainwash whose street artworks are getting protected with plexiglass! ...

Comic Crash Graffiti Wall

Comic Crash Graffiti Wall

Urban Comic Art | I love that great intervention which as recently done by urban artist Pantonio! He created a comic-related mural artwork after a car crashed into a concrete wall in the Portuguese capital Lisbon… The comic style explosion graphics are cropped to the pieces left in the wall in such a way that one could wonder which came first the graffiti or the crash, or graffiti made with dynamite paint. Niark1 - Urban Soul Paintings

Niark1 - Urban Soul Paintings

Urban Art Exhibition | Yesterday, West Berlin Gallery opened its doors for the opening of the “The Hidden Side” exhibition by French graphic designer, illustrator and fine artist Sebastien Feraut a.k.a Niark1! I joined together with some friends and was impressed by the complexity and explicitly of the paper, canvas and other various mixed media paintings… With a multitude of inspirations, ranging from all kinds of music to create, to 80s horror films, David Lynch, Hayao Miyazaki animations, Francis Bacon, Basquiat, Constructivism, Cubism, graffiti and street art, subcultures, the list is endless, Niark1’s work reflects the pop surrealism of the Low Brow Movement. Like the roots of a tree on speed his paintings crawl and sprawl, filling up the whole canvas with the vivid creations of his imagination. (westberlingallery.com) ...

Base23 & Morten Andersen - Hell Hounds from the North

Base23 & Morten Andersen - Hell Hounds from the North

Urban Art Exposition | The two urban artists Base23 and Morten Andersen have some things in common! First, both are Berlin-based artists. Second, both developed a unique and convincing style. Third, both are hell hounds from the north and fourth, both will exhibit at Pretty Portal Gallery in Düsseldorf at the end of this month! Morten Andersen attracted the public attention by using rhythmic forms and expressive, whirling colours. Base23 hypnotized people creating characters, that remind indian totems of the 23. century. The vigorous and graphical pieces of Base 23 build a strong contrast to the abstract works by Morten Andersen. As a result the viewers will experiece great tension caused by the confrontation of the both artists. (prettyportal.de) ...

Light Painting WiFi

Light Painting WiFi

Urban Light Art | Yeah I know, the results when art meets technology are often strange, but sometimes also groundbreaking and interesting. Timo Arnall, Jørn Knutsen and Einar Sneve Martinussen recently showed that the Graffiti Research Lab is not the only agency which combines urban arts with technology by developing a four meters tall light art tool which makes WiFi visible! This project explores the invisible terrain of WiFi networks in urban spaces by light painting signal strength in long-exposure photographs. A four-meters long measuring rod with 80 points of light reveals cross-sections through WiFi networks using a photographic technique called light-painting. (About the project) ...

City Documentary | Do you remember the ruins of Detroit, which are a paradise for urban explorers and artists from all over the globe? Right after I published that post I got a message by Bixentro from London, who informed me about a small documentary by Palladium Boots about the city of Detroit, in which Mister Knoxville himself explores abandoned areas and the new generation of creative people restructuring and reorganizing the public life… ...
