Street Artists in Action!

Street Artists in Action!

Now it’s time! My new urban art photo-blog about street artists in action is online with some first basic posts, including interesting photos of Flying Förtress, The London Police, Seak One, Buffdiss, Mode2, Augustine Kofie and The Mac at work! Inspired by that fantastic street artists at work photo-gallery, I had the idea to create my own gallery-blog, focusing on graffiti and street artists being creative: For years now, I document street art in Berlin and other European cities I visited. What I learned is, when you are deep in that multicultural and highly creative public art scene, you want to get in touch with its protagonists, with the people behind those often funny or political street artworks. You want to know faces, want to see how they work, want to feel the adrenalin of illegal working. The aim of this photo-blog is to give answers to these questions… (www.urbanart-photography.eu) ...

Exhibition Dickheads?!

Exhibition Dickheads?!

Today I’ll not show you up-to-date street art news, the latest mural artworks by Blu or Banksy’s most recent art installation, but something totally different: Since I’m in London it becomes really usual for me to go to urban art exhibition openings having guest-lists, queues in front of the entrance and free beer as much as you need (and even more). In Berlin it’s quite different and so every art show is always exciting for me. ...

The Street Art Stencil Book

The Street Art Stencil Book

Some days ago, I stumbled upon a crazy stencil art book, which contains real cardboard stencils maybe 20 famous stencil artist from around the globe! Its name: “The Street Art Stencil Book”. When I first saw the book I thought “Oh, aha, another of these stencil art documentary books…” but when I took a closer look, I found these ready stencils and was dizzy. “The Street Art Stencil Book” includes articles about artists like Pure Evil, Blek Le Rat, XOOOOX, C215, M-City and others and, as I already said, an original stencil of each of them: ...

New Abandoned Tape Art, Buffdiss

New Abandoned Tape Art, Buffdiss

Since I’m in London, some interesting things happened in Berlin. I will give you a short overview in the next Urban Art Eye Candy post, which should be ready in the next days. But today I show you the new abandoned tape artworks, my friend Buffdiss recently did in some old factories and warehouses… Australian tape artist Buffdiss is well-known around the globe for his fantastic tape installations, showing hands, ornaments, letters or other line-based stuff, whereas some of his latest artworks combine tape and paint and create in this way some new effects! And although it seems the new works are still experimental, I hope to see more of that stuff soon! ...

CCTV Birds: Urban Evolution?

CCTV Birds: Urban Evolution?

It’s not the first technical evolution in urban environment and it’s not the first artistically protest against observations of public space, but the brilliant CCTV birds and the corresponding “panoptICONS” project by Thomas voor ‘t Hekke and Bas van Oerle are somehow special. Maybe it’s because of the strong politically, anti-control background, the great artistic implementation or the fantastic idea of cyborg-animals in a city…these urban installations are fuckin’ great, the public feedback confirms it! ...

Murals: Practiques, Murals, Contemporanies

Murals: Practiques, Murals, Contemporanies

Recently I visited the Design Museum in London and stumble over an very interesting book, which unfortunately was totally new for me. Murals: Practiques, Murals, Contemporanies (2010) by the Joan Miró Foundation shows different aspects of the very interesting urban art form of mural painting! On about 140 colored pages, the book begin with the traditional work of different protagonists as the Soninke women of Mauritania and continues with the work of artists who generally intervene in public places, including Lothar Gotz (Germany), Scope One (Singapore), UTR Crew (Bosnia-Herzegovina), Brian Rea (USA), Nuria & Eltono (Spain and France) and others. ...

Urban Art Sculptures: Boy Soldiers

Urban Art Sculptures: Boy Soldiers

Earlier this month, the urban art sculptures exhibition “Boy Soldiers” by fine artist Schoony and the Graffik London gallery opened it’s doors for the public. With a lot of better known street and graffiti artists on the guest list, the opening at the Blackall Studios was really successful! Each of the 25 participating urban artists (“the UK’s top artists of the current UK and European art scene”, as Hooked wrote) designed one of the fantastic Boy Soldier fibreglass sculptures by Schoony and created in that way some really good and especially unusual urban artworks. ...

Berlin’s Painting Reality

Berlin’s Painting Reality

Do you remember that ominous massive paint attack in Berlin earlier this year? A group of unknown bikers hit the Rosenthaler Platz in the heart of Berlin and spilled about 500 liters of colorful, water-based environmentally-friendly paint on the asphalt. Back then, a rumor circulated in the web about whether this paint attack was just another form of guerrilla marketing or a brilliant urban art action? Massive Paint Attack Video Today the official documentary video, named “Painting Reality”, was published by IEPE & the anonymous crew! It shows the whole procedure of spilling paint on the junction, which only took a few seconds. ...

Graffitti, Grafity, Graffity or Graffiti?

Graffitti, Grafity, Graffity or Graffiti?

Today something totally different: I was just wondering about the different, alternative forms of spelling “graffiti”. There are people who write it with double-f, double-t and an ending-i (“graffitti”), those who spell it with single-f, single-t and an ending-y (“grafity”) and others who write it with double-f, single-t and an ending-y (“graffity”)! It’s insane and I don’t know why there are so many different versions (Yes, there are even more, but these are the three most popular!). For that reason I would like to bring the true spelling to light today… ...
