Crimes of Minds - Urban Art Festival, Update

Crimes of Minds - Urban Art Festival, Update

I already wrote a lot about the urban art festival Crimes of Minds, taking place in the beautiful city of Brest, France. Nonetheless, there is still a lot I haven’t featured yet. For that reason, I’ll hereby give you a more extensive overview about what happened during the last months Crimes of Minds… Crimes of Minds - The Festival Organised by well-known graffiti artist Liliwenn, Crimes of Minds started about a year ago with Best Ever and Ben Slow painting in the streets, went on with Morten Andersen, Fin DAC and Sly 2 and included the famous Da Mental Vaporz crew creating a fantastic mural! Since then a lot happened and Brest got more and more colorful. ...

Uebergrund #3 - Urban Exploration Magazine

Uebergrund #3 - Urban Exploration Magazine

In addition to the fantastic Klebstoff #4 Sticker Magazine, I also just received the third issue of Sebastian Linck’s urban exploration magazine Uebergrund! Like the previous two issues (#1 and #2), this latest photo mag presents urbanex impressions from different cities in Germany and Europe. This time, Uebergrund mainly focuses on the beauty of almost demolished and decaying houses and factory buildings in East-Germany, Darmstadt and Lisbon! More Urban Exploration Photography: Sebastian Linck’s Uebergrund magazine is one of the few German contributions for the international urban exploration scene. If you like to see some more urbex impressions, check out some other photo-taking urban explorers from around the globe! ...

Klebstoff #4 Sticker Magazine

Klebstoff #4 Sticker Magazine

It’s been a long time, since the last issue of the iconic sticker magazine Klebstoff (German for glue) was published, but recently I received the new fourth issue! First published in 2009 by German Wildsmile Studios, the Klebstoff mag soon became popular in the German sticker and urban art scene. The clue: Each page of the mag consists of real stickers by real artists, what allows you to have a lot of fun with it - I for one decided to entirely cover one of my bookshelf in stickers… ...

Best Places in Berlin, Posters

Best Places in Berlin, Posters

The best places in Berlin are now marked as such by students of Communication in Social and Economic Contexts (Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftskommunikation, GWK) at the Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin, UdK)! The group placed several controversial posters throughout the entire city, presenting slogans like - *U8 is the best place for buying heroin in Berlin. Amen.*, - *Mustafas is the best place for waiting in line in Berlin. Amen.*, - *Kastanienallee is the best place for dying on your fixi in Berlin ever. Amen.* or - *Revaler Straße is the best Technostrich ever. Amen.* For those of you who already visited Berlin, these best places in Berlin should not be that unfamiliar… ...

Calligraphica - Hand Drawn Type & Calligraphy

Calligraphica - Hand Drawn Type & Calligraphy

I just spent the last 30 minutes zapping through Calligraphi.ca, a nice tumblr just about calligraphy and hand drawn type! Calligraphica features the calligraphically works by a dozen talented urban artists, designers and taggers, namely Andrei Robu, Eduard Dimasov, Giuseppe Salerno, Greg Papagrigoriou, Joluvian, Kinessisk, Luke Lucas, Michel D’anastasio, Misha Karagezyan, Sergey Shapiro, Spit and Theosone. Using flat brushes and paint on walls, wooden sticks and ink on paper, calligraphy pens or brush pens, those dudes know what they are doing. But in my eyes, especially Greg Papagrigoriou is killin’ it! ...

Blek Le Rat Stencil Pioneer, Documentary

Blek Le Rat Stencil Pioneer, Documentary

The Street Knowledge Agency, representers of author and content auteur King Adz, recently uploaded a half-hourly documentary about stencil art pioneer Blek Le Rat, whose 20 years old Madonna street artwork in Leipzig lately got preserved! As Crackajack.de mentioned, it’s probably the video from the outsold Blek Le Rat - Original Stencil Pioneer DVD by Gestalten. If anyone knows whether this is true, I would be pleased about a short comment… Street art has evolved and every major stencil artist today, most famously Banksy, have been influenced by Blek’s unique style. Bansky claims, “every time I think I’ve painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well, only twenty years earlier…” ...

EPOS 257’s Urban Shooting Paintings

EPOS 257’s Urban Shooting Paintings

I just stumbled upon a six month old project by Czech urban art crew EPOS 257 entitled Urban Shooting Paintings! For the Urban Shooting Paintings EPOS 257, who became popular with the 50 square meters of public space intervention in Prague, uses homemade weapon and ammunition… The theme – a gesture signalling an attack – remains the same. Its essence, however, relates more to the very roots of guerrilla art, established at the end of the 1960s in the US by activist groups refashioning billboard adverts.I move around with the weapon in the open urban landscape. In my case, it is not an attack on a particular advert but billboard as a medium in general, which in this context represents a painter’s canvas in the urban landscape. (EPOS 257) ...

Klub7 Talks About Chalk

Klub7 Talks About Chalk

As Klub7, Dani Daphne, Diskorobot, Mike Okay, Kid Cash, Lowskii, and Otto Baum have made a name for themselves with their street art as well as the murals, customizations, and illustrations which they create on various surfaces. Since its inception over 10 years ago, the Berlin-based collective has progressively and continuously expanded its oeuvre. Recently, the Klub7 crew opened a exhibition at the Gestalten Space in Berlin, as Mark Jenkins and Xoooox did before. For that reason, Gestalten.tv met them to discuss the joy of spontaneous artistic interactions, chalk and the evolution of graffiti! ...

Open Streets - Post Graffiti Documentary Trailer

Open Streets is really interesting-looking documentary about the so-called post graffiti/ urban art scene. Put together by French Shock Films collective, the film features with Belin, Cope2, ECB, Klub7, MadC, Monk.E, One Hate Seven and Nychos several worldwide well-known artists who left behind street art and graffiti and stepped further to what usually is called post graffiti or urban art… Open Streets is about this important development in the public art scene and tries to explore reasons, motivations and ideals of its creative protagonists.
