A spectre is haunting Berlin - the spectre of Mediaspree! Those of you, who already have been in know, that Berlin is Germany’s capital of urban free spaces, but for years the Mediaspree spectre is haunting the city. Mediaspree is a group of investors, which is in the act of building high office blocks and luxury apartments on the former free spaces in Berlin’s city. Some of the most popular free spaces are the non-private spaces along the Spree’s riverside (The Spree is the river, which crosses Berlin…). These alternative bars, beach areas and parks are so much part of the air we all breathe that we can’t even think of a world without them. For that reason, 30.​000 people (An overwhelming majority!) voted in a referendum against Mediaspree and its gentrification plannings in 2008. But nothing happens… ...

Dan Witz is maybe one of the most powerful street artists on earth. Since the 70’s, the master of fine art and public interventions is active on the streets in New York and other US-American cities. In 1979, he started his first large scale street art project by painting over 40 birds in lower Manhattan. In 1994, he wheat pasted about 75 black silkscreens hoodies and in did these brutal but also amazing Dark Doings installations. ...

At the end of last year, I announced the graffiti movie Girl Power, which is a documentary roadfilm and shows the typically male dominated graffiti world from the female point of view. Two days ago, the official trailer was published! The film crew travels across 15 European countries and crosses the Atlantic to graffiti’s birthplace New York, introducing the audience not only to female graffiti artists, but also famous writers, friends, interesting people and anyone else who truly has something to say. It’s the third time, that I have PictureReport in the program. The first time I wrote about the filmmakers crew was last winter, when they published that beautiful urban winter atmosphere video. And then, four weeks ago I wrote about the first two parts of their abandoned places series. This time, I write because they filmed another known abandoned place in Berlin: The NSA station Teufelsberg Berlin, which is empty since Americans and Britons left the listening station in 1991. Ha! Yesterday, I suspected, that “it seems to be mural art time for a lot of urban artists”, because so many beautiful and huge mural artworks spring up around the globe. Today I feel confirmed, because of that great new mural artwork, the Italian street art duo Sten & Lex recently created in Lyon, France. Sten and Lex are very popular for their more or less unique styled large-scale prints, hand-drawings and stencil artworks, they left in a huge number of cities. Recently, a few weeks ago they beautified Rome with a two mixed poster mural showing famous football player Totti and a wolf - looks impressive! ...

Maybe you realized in some previous articles, that I’m not really a fan of Apple and for that reason it’s not my intention to promote new Apple products or something like that… Nevertheless, I would like inform the Apple users who certainly are under my readership - No, you don’t have to out yourself! - that there’s in addition to that urban art guide app, which is available in Berlin and Hamburg, another new street art app for the iPhone. Two month ago, WK Interact created a nice mural art in New York, short time later the mural art festival “Breakin’ The Wall” started in Wroclaw, three weeks ago El Bocho painted a nice one in Berlin, recently Blu, Sam3 and Os Gêmeos painted together in Lisbon and now Steve Locatelli created another huge mural artwork in Antwerp! ...

Alien-like creatures waked up in the streets of Tel Aviv several years ago, when internationally known street artist Klone began to paste-up his extraterrestrial artworks. Now he’s in Berlin and placed some new colorful paper artworks. Formerly known as graffiti artist Make, Klone started pasting hand-drawn paper characters, which should replace his tags and throw-ups, about 5 to ix years ago… The predator characters developed after a long process, when I’ve been working with my oneline drawings, trying to define a character in one line and parralel I was working on series of more realistic paintings of real predators incorporating them into my streetwork, I wanted to create something new, something that might make people think a bit different, so i came up with charaters that combine the animal and human features, people got disturbed and eventually embraced the new and the weird species in the city.
