Street Art: Chimp, 1010 & CUPK in Hamburg

Yesterday, I visited Hamburg to fetch some new sneakers and to meet my friend Jörg from the Heliumcowboys Artspace. I spend the whole day walking through the streets, photographing nice street art… My personal feeling is, that Hamburg is the German capital of sticker art. There are googols of different stickers by famous urban artists like Flying Förtress, CUPK and The London Police as well as an uncountable number of other great stickers by local artists! ...

Buffed Graffiti Exhibition in Zurich?

Wow, there will be an stunning graffiti art exhibition in Zurich tomorrow! I was really excited when I saw these amazing buffed graffiti artworks first… Thierry Furger presents his “Buffed Paintings”, which show - as the name implies - graffiti pieces that look like recently buffed. This is his way to deal with the transience of graffiti: “Often graffiti is gone within a few hours. Removed by cleaning crews, repainted by other sprayers or destructed by time and weather, because no one is responsible for their preservation. For that reason, the writer has to learn to deal with the almost self-evident ephemerality of his pictures…” (press release) ...

Graffiti Documentary: Focusing Martha Cooper

The legendary “Subway Art” book by US-American graffiti photographer Martha Cooper, which was published in 1984, is a milestone in the medial writing documentation. “I’ve seen it grown from a specific, localized New York City phenomenon to what it is now a worldwide overground predominant movement and that’s gonna been an pretty exciting thing to watch…” (Martha Cooper) My friend RJ from the Vandalog blog met her last December and did that interesting interview with her. ...

A month ago, I told you about that very interesting art book by king calligrapher Niels “Shoe” Meulman. Now it’s, in addition to the Modart No. 01, in my possession and I’m very happy about that! With prologues by John Langdon and Adam Eeuwens, who are internationally active graphic designers and typographers, the about 120 pages book impress with high-quality photographs of Shoe’s artworks as well as with some great digital vector artworks. ...

Urban Billboard Art - Street Art by Ox

Urban Billboard Art - Street Art by Ox

Some days ago, I received an e-mail from French urban artist and adbuster Ox and I have to say, that I didn’t know him before, but really like his nice artworks! For years, Ox pastes great collages or minimalist shapes over billboards and in that way creates new, often colorful statements. His billboard takeovers - he calls it “Affichages” - could be found all over France and in other European cities like London. To cut a long story short and to show you his great doings, here are some photos… ...

Nomad’s New Artworks

Right after Ron English’s cover for the “Color Ink Book” reminded me of Nomad’s “Rainbowcoloured Tears of a Clown” art exhibition, I found out that Nomad updated his picture-blog! As an original street artist, Nomad developed his expressional variants conceptually and technically through interactive projects in interior and exterior spaces: combining writing and street art with poetry and classical painting. His recent project was the so called “Land Art” project, where Nomad transfers the ideas and intentions of street art into the wild nature… ...
