WTF: RNG Graffiti Action in Moscow

WTF: RNG Graffiti Action in Moscow

On a hot-looking sunny day last week, RNG crew went big in Moscow! Although they cross handshaked each other (in Germany there’s a saying that cross shaking hands is going to bring ill luck) the RNG crew was in luck or well-prepared when they bombed that huge noise barrier in Moscow, some of them just wearing pants… This, in addition to the almost legendary CHO crew actions and the beautiful tram graffiti, is a conformation for my personal theory about graffiti in Russia, Russian crews and the somehow visible Russian mentality. Anyway, this RNG bombing was a huge effort - show them your love! ...

Urban Redevelopment: Buy Your Prison!

Urban Redevelopment: Buy Your Prison!

I just read about the USA and their prison problems and first was quite flashed when I noticed that the State of New York is hoping to sell its old prisons, before I entirely thought about it… As the New York Times explains in their New York Has Some Prisons to Sell You article (which by the way reads like a property description), the ideal buyer is someone who craves space to spread out, and who does not mind a property that has had thousands of guests over the years, what made my day because including me I know several others who could use such huge urban places to transform them into architectural research centers (as BLDGBLOG describes), to create impressing exhibition spaces, urban art centers, youth clubs, etc. ...

Concrete Art: Vhils in Lisbon

Concrete Art: Vhils in Lisbon

Wow, I’m totally flashed - Portuguese hero and artist of destruction Alexandre Farto aka Vhils just redesigned one of the oldest concrete blocks in Lisbon! In Eixo Norte-Sul, a district in Portugal’s capital, Vhils added parts of a face onto the facade of an abandoned concrete tower. Right next to the motorway, it’s now attracting people’s attention… For Vhils, who visited California and Shanghai before, it’s one of the first stops at home for a while. Hope to see some more new works of him in Europe in near future! ...

Guerrilla Paint Sculpture

Guerrilla Paint Sculpture

Looks like companies are going a step further with their urban art ad campaigns. After using stencils for guerrilla advertising, paying graffiti artists to paint some backdrops or planning large action street theater, they are now willing to let their ad agencies install impressing advert sculptures… Belgian paint manufacturer Levis (Akzo Nobel) recently came up with an urban guerrilla paint sculpture! The installation, planned and created by Belgian ad agency King George, consists of an XXL Levis paint pot mounted onto an existing lamppost eight metres above the ground so it appears to be floating. The post itself has been painted red, creating a stream of paint that looks like it is coloring the car park where it is situated, as was described on designboom.com. ...

For a few hours, he turned nearly an entire Logan Square street block into a 280 square meters urban park: ...

Banksy Ideas - Parodying A Street Art Icon

Banksy Ideas - Parodying A Street Art Icon

For a lot of people around the globe, the stencil artworks by British street art icon Banksy are the quintessence of politically influenced street art comedy. Whether the flower throwing anarchist, the peace symbol painting soldiers, or even the Child Drawing series, Banksy knows how to combine political statements with more or less subtle jokes… Not long ago, the Twitter account Banksy Ideas was registered, describing itself as The R&D dept at Banksy HQ and developing parodying ideas for new Banksy-like stencil artworks. Here’s some of my favorites: ...

Ox Billboard Takeover in Angers

Ox Billboard Takeover in Angers

I’m a big fan of French urban artist and adbuster Ox, who should definitely not be a stranger for you! Being busy for the last years, Ox created his billboard takeover artworks, adapting their environment in amusing way, all over the globe… Recently he wrote from the nice French city of Angers, where he did his best for the Artaq urban art festival. Again I have to say, that his paintings, imitating for example certain bus and tram designs, really work out! ...
