This year, a spectacular urban art event will take place in Berlin: “Art Monument 2010”! For many years, a unique architectural building, a 46 meters high tower called “Bierpinsel”, has been asleep in the center of Berlin. Its paint fades and until yet the tower was only used by students, who studied the futuristic architecture of the 1970th. Between April 1st and May 15th, four famous street artist will repaint the monument! One of the most spectacular open-air galleries of Europe will be created. ...
Last year, the car-manufacturer Mini celebrated its 50th birthday with a great art event. In addition to the controversial discussed, but inspiring KRink vs. Mini action, ten other well-known artists, including urban artists like Seak One, Tika and Smash137, created their custom-styled Minis. Ten very different car-styles were created by the very different artist, whose single similarity was, that they never painted a car before. If your aren’t Scottish, you have maybe never heard about the great and fantastic “Ghostvillage Project”. Some weeks ago, six more or less renowned urban artists - Timid, Remi/Rough, System, Stormie Mills, Juice 126 and Derm - meet each other for three days on the west coast of Scotland to repaint an abandoned 1970s village. Working together on huge collaborative walls and individually in hidden nooks and crannies all over the site the artists realised long held dreams and were inspired by the bleakness and remoteness of the site. Drawing on the history of the village the artists’ stated intent on completion of the project was to populate the ghostvillage with the art and characters that it deserved. (Agents of Change) ...
Recently I read an article about the “Neon Sign Boneyard” in Las Vegas written by my friend Bigod, who found a very interesting photo-album about it on Flickr. “The Neon Sign Boneyard in Las Vegas. Here you find the old neon signs that were outside casinos that have long since gone. Today I found a very nice video by Job and Roel Wouters about the fun of drawing letters. Job Wouters is better known as “Letman” - He’s an internationally known typographer who also created artworks in urban environment. His brother Roel is a conditional designer who lives and works in Amsterdam. Both will be part of the “If You Could Collaborate” exhibition in London, where they will present their new “Rainbow Gun”.
