Facadeprinter - Urban Print Media

It’s wonderful to get to know, that creative people around the world steadily develop new techniques for making the urban landscape more colorful. A really new and astonishing concept is the so called facadeprinter by Martin Fussenegger and Michael Haas, which was already in use at the urban art fair “Stroke01” in Munich this year. It’s a unconventional machine, which allows to create a new, previously non-existent form of urban print media - it’s an inkdot-printer in architectonical scale: ...

Church Mural Art - Augustine Kofie

Do you know Augustine Kofie? He is an US-American urban artist, who usually paints walls and creates mural artworks. I recently found a nice time lapse video of the making of one of his murals and thought, that you maybe are interested in taking a look at it. In this video, he paints a wall at an old church: “This former church has hosted many a late night event as well as a number of commercials and reality TV shows. The retaining wall is actually the buildings side stairs as well as a handicap ramp, so the shape wasn’t exactly square as most walls I paint are. I worked the shape of the wall into the left side of the mural. ...

Map Cuts - Paper Art

Map Cuts - Paper Art

I love artworks, which are influenced by maps or the city itself. For this reason, I already wrote some articles about this part of contemporary art - remind the Manhattan Skyline Drawing by Stephen Wiltshire or the fantastic typographic lino-cut by Mark Andrew Webber. Today I will present another great example: Whether New York, Paris or London, American artist Karen O’Leary’s map cuts are amazing! She hand-cuts parts of original maps into paper and reveals in this way the paths, nodes, circles, boulevards, parks and streets of some of the greatest cities in the world. ...

Time-lapse Graffiti Mural

Yeah! Some minutes ago, I found a great time-lapse graffiti mural video…There are a lot of graffiti and mural art videos in the internet, but they’re rarely as good as this one! Three crews, the Pirates, Stereofarm and Spring69 got together to create a fantastic colorful masterpiece and a amazing time-lapse video of the making-of for the international “Central Illustration Agency” (CIA). ...

New Street Art by Roadsworth

Street art belongs on the road - The Canadian urban artist Roadsworth takes this literally. He paints directly on the streets and uses thereby pre-existing things like road markings. Since about 2001, he reinterprets various elements of the urban landscape with his original street art. His unique style of his interventional painting, makes him popular around the globe. Peter Gibson (Montreal, Canada) otherwise known as “Roadsworth”, looks to street lanes, crosswalks, and traffic markers as the inspiration for his painterly interventions. In what he refers to as “Pedestrian Street Art”, Gibson employs humble materials of stencils and spray paint to turn the street into his canvas. The resulting work re-fashions the all too familiar signage of streets and sidewalks, creating a whimsical new twist on civilian wayfinding. (press release) ...

Urban Top Shots #10

Yeah, today the “Urban Top Shots” celebrate their tenth issue! For this reason, I decided not only the classical three, but this time five photographs! For about ten weeks, I weekly explore the deeps of the Urban Artcore-Flickr group to detect interesting and impressing examples of urban photography. As I wrote in the first “Urban Top Shots” article, the reason of why I post foreign photos is easy to understand: I do that, because I think that there are many good, but mostly unknown photos on Flickr and so I have some interesting visual content, you’ll see new shots with urban character and the photographers and/ or artists will maybe become some fame. ...

Smash 137 - Graffiti Show

Some weeks ago, I wrote about the upcoming Smash 137 graffiti exhibition. Yesterday it was time - Exactly 7pm, the Common Ground Gallery opened its doors. “Contemporary European artist Smash 137 has a worldwide reputation as being an innovator. His impact on the international writer’s scene is significant and widespread. He is what you might call a writer’s writer, with an advanced conceptual take on letter styles and modes of application. Equally at home in the street and in the gallery his work takes the art of writing to the next level.” (press release) ...

Underground Skatepark in London

I regularly ask myself, how to renew and use abandoned places, like old industrial areas, dead railway lines or uninhabited houses in the cities around the world. A flagship project is the underground skatepark in London. Do you know? It’s called “White Grounds Skate Plaza” and open since April 2007. It’s located in an old, formerly disused service tunnel close to London Bridge station and was designed by the “Side Effects Of Urethane” crew. ...

High-Skill 3D Building Projections

3D video projections on buildings are a never ending story! There’s no week without new videos and photo of those great light projection artworks. These technically complex art installations are en vogue and possibly the urban communication tool of 2009. “Impressive and stylish projections on buildings, a renewing way of communicating. For those who want to carry out a message in a striking and visually attractive way with guaranteed exposure.” (NuFormer) ...
