Obey in Europe - Video

Some days ago, i actually wrote about the European Invasion by Obey aka Shepard Fairey with some really nice photos of his poster actions in London, Paris and Amsterdam. Today I found this nice video of that action days. It includes a small statement by Obey and a lot of nice impressions from the streets. I started in 1989 with that images of “André the Giant”, the wrestler, just as an inside-joke with some friends. But I really want it to put across the idea of an image, calling the use of public space in the question. ...

Nomad - Classical Painting & Street Art

Yesterday, one of Berlin’s most famous urban artists Nomad opened his recent exhibition “Rainbowcoloured Tears of a Clown” at the Circleculture Gallery. “Circleculture Gallery is pleased to announce its first solo exhibition featuring the artist Nomad. As an original street artist, he developed his expressional variants conceptually and technically through interactive projects in interior and exterior spaces: combining writing and street art with poetry and classical painting. In this context, we become acquainted with Nomad’s street art in the gallery as part of a holistic work of art. The works shown move between humour, satire and human drama. At the centre is the clown or fool, who mirrors the ambiguity of human existence.” (press release) ...

Black on White, Style needs no Color

Bigger, more colorful and even more detailed - This is seemingly a actual trend in the graffiti scene. In my opinion it’s to much. For me, a piece is a good one when it’s unique and has a attractive typographic character - Too many colors overlay the rather style… Quite similarly think the people from “Style needs no color”. They released their book “Black on White” with a big live painting (only in black and white) some days ago! Over 20 graffiti artists, including 3Steps, Faker,Mr.Cybe, Panik, Pesk, Ritak and Tabu, painted at the hall of fame in Koblenz. ...

New Urban Interventions by SpY

New Urban Interventions by SpY

Since the mid-80s, shortly after he had worked himself up to the showcase graffiti artist of Spain, Madrid-based writer Spy began to deal with other forms of artistic communication in public space. Since then, Spy is titled as a second Banksy, because of the extreme innovation and audacity of his artworks. He therefore enjoys a heightened public interest, not only in Spain but also in Europe and around the world. ...

StreetFest in London - Flashback

Somehow I missed the live art event, which took place in London several days ago. But of course I will still write something about it… “Live art” or “performance art” is where an artist creates a piece of art in front of audience. This experience gives the viewers some insight into the mind of an artist at work, which is not only exciting but thought provoking. StreetFest is the first and only live art street festival in UK. ...

Levi’s & Urban Art

Almost every bigger fashion label used street art or graffiti for their commercials or got directly in contact with international urban art protagonists in the last years. A few already have their own gallery! Street art is popular and for this reason en vogue. Also jeans fabricator Levi’s goes with the trend and brought two well-known urban artists on board of its advertising campaigns in the last weeks. On the one hand, Shepard Fairey made a whole poster series - the Levi’s collaboration graphics - in his famous Obey-style and on the other hand, KR designed some jeans and jackets for them. ...

Sweatshoppe - LED Paint Roller

Sweatshoppe - LED Paint Roller

I had already mentioned one thing or two about light art and its different uses by street artists. This time I will show you a really interesting video, produced by Sweatshoppe, a viedo artists and multimedia performers collective. The developed the LED paint roller! It’s a paint roller, which actually doesn’t paint any paint. Instead it is made of green LEDs (light emitting diodes) which work in conjunction with a camera next to a projector which is programmed with software that tracks its movements. ...
