Augustine Kofie, Artist Profile

Almost two month ago, Los Angeles-based mural artist Augustine Kofie visited Berlin for a live-painting at Jaybo aka Monk’s Project Room. Kofie, who was born 1973, is internationally well-known for his amazing technically skills, he uses to create fantastic abstract paintings. Although his artworks only consist of simple geometrically shapes - exact lines and circles - and smooth colors, they seem to be rather complex and elegant. “The Qualities of Light” published an impressive artist profile about Augustine Kofie, in which he talks about his hidden preferences for collecting old things, his inspirational sources and first love, illustration. For a few days, the interesting UK debut solo-show by Brooklyn-based urban artist Specter is running at famous Pure Evil Gallery. As you maybe know, I’m fortunately in London at moment and took the chance to meet up with Specter at the gallery! Some days ago, I received an e-mail by Sabine Willig who seems to be a representative of the Choque Cultural Gallery in São Paulo, which is “a contemporary art gallery exhibiting pop, outsider art.” She informed me about an amazing exhibition which takes place in the three floors of the gallery… One of the most famous São Paulo based urban artists José Amaro Capela, who is also known as Zezão, is currently exhibiting at Choque Cultural! The name of the really beautiful looking art show is “Vari Ações Urbanas”, which means “Various Urban Actions” and presents collages of up to 1,85 x 1,90 m size as well as paintings on wood, paper, canvas and the rusty surfaces… ...
