I have a foible for maps in general - you should know that since I posted about the map cuts by Karen O’Leary or the worldwide subway map source - for what reason I was delighted when I recently found the transamerican map artworks by Matthew Cusick. Matthew creates mainly portraits by cutting and pasting together snippets of physical maps! The results look just great and I’m really wondering how many maps he already utilized… ...

I recently received a nice e-mail by French street artist Chifumi, who asked me to share his giant wheatpaste artworks with you - and because I was impressed when I saw photos of his works I immediately started to write this post… Based in Mulhouse near the German-French border, Chifumi not just creates fantastic urban hacking interventions (like those in Strasbourg and Avignon) and amazing architectural landscape installations (like those in various French forests), but also giant wheatpastes talking about violent aesthetics of graffiti, which somehow reminded me of the tape hands by Buff Diss… ...

After visiting Copenhagen a few days ago, popular propaganda artist Shepard Fairey continues his Scandinavia tour and recently arrived in Oslo. To honour the victims of the terror of July 22, his staff created a huge memorial mural at Kirkeveien 59 communicating peace in bold letters! I don’t know whether it’s good being reminded of that tragedy every single day by a huge memorial, but detached from that Shepard Fairey established with that massive paste-up mural a new attraction in the city of Oslo. ...

After the first edition of Tag’n’Tof, a participatory urban art installation project, last year the second edition took recently place at Confluence Gallery in Paris. As a part of the Give Me A Wall So I Can Escape festival, the French PhotoGraff Collectif (PGC) invited 100 graffiti artists to paint a paper graffiti city! For that reason, well-known graffiti artists like Saner, Sowat, Shaka, Sly2, MTO and others were able to paint the recreated streets of Belleville. Don’t know if you already heard about it, but the TED Prize and famous photographer and urban artist JR (the 2011 TED Prize winner) developed a nice new project called Inside Out in March 2011. The idea behind this project is that you submit a portrait photo of yourself, which will be printed and send back to you so that you are able to paste the poster somewhere in the city… ...
