Photography documentation captures street art, graffiti, and urban art imagery, showcasing diverse styles, techniques, locations, and the raw creative energy of contemporary urban expressions.
Photography serves as the essential medium for documenting and preserving the ephemeral nature of street art, graffiti, and urban art across global cities. Beyond mere documentation, urban art photography has developed into its own artistic discipline, exploring creative angles, lighting techniques, and framing choices that enhance the impact of the original artworks.
Through exhibitions, publications, and digital platforms, photographers play a vital role in bringing street art to audiences who cannot experience these works firsthand, democratizing access to urban creativity while honoring the artists’ original intentions and contexts.
Girl Power - Graffiti Movie
Yeah, do you know, that there will be a new documentary movie about women in the graffiti world? No? I will tell you some facts about it:
“Girl Power” is the name of that new graffiti film, which shows impressions and emotions from around the world. The film crew traveled with 20 graffiti girls to over ten cities, like Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Budapest, Moscow, and so on.
For some weeks, the first teaser for the documentary movie, which will be released in 2011, is online! It presents some parts of the Berlin trip.

Total Rewall Photos
Some time ago, I wrote an article about the fantastic “Total Rewall” project in London, which connects graffiti, street art and photography in an public, urban context.
“Total Rewall” started on Friday December 4th in the infamous Leake Street Tunnel, which was once the home of Banksy’s Cans Festival, with the claim “on collaboration, not only between the photographers organising the exhibition and taking of photos (of places graffers normally would not be able to work on) – but also with street artists themselves, a vital part of the cog.”

Total Rewall - Graffiti & Photography
A very interesting concept of creative urban participation is the “Total Rewall” project, which connects photography and graffiti.
About twenty photographers posted up giant photographs on the walls of the famous Leake Street tunnel in South London, which became open canvasses…
“Total Rewall is bringing photography into the world of graffiti, by giving artists and creative types alike, for one whole week, a rare chance to work their magic on otherwise forbidden territory.

Vitostreet - Urban Calendar 2010
First of all, I have to say sorry to all of you, who daily read my articles, for not posting in the last week, but the only two things I did in the last days, are sleeping and drinking tea. Yes, I have the flu, but it’s getting better and better…
And now for something completely different - Do you know my friend Vito del Forte? He is a well known street art documentalist, who knows almost every interesting corner in Paris.

JR & Abu Dhabi Art Fair
Between the 19th and 22nd November, there was an international art show in the United Arab Emirates, called the “Abu Dhabi Art Fair”. Around 50 galleries from the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the United States presented artworks.
One of the exhibiting artists was famous French street artist and photographer JR! He created a large scale wheatpaste installation in the center of the UAE’s capital. When I saw the exclusive photos the first time, I was really shocked, because of their great atmosphere.

Urban Top Shots #11
It’s Friday again, hence it’s time for a next round urban top shots! What I call urban top shots, are the three - in my opinion - best photographs of the Urban Artcore-Flickr group.
As you maybe know, I weekly feature these top shots to make mostly unknown, but good pictures more popular. So I have some interesting visual content, you see new urban shots and the photographers and/ or artists will maybe become some fame.

Urban Top Shots #10
Yeah, today the “Urban Top Shots” celebrate their tenth issue! For this reason, I decided not only the classical three, but this time five photographs!
For about ten weeks, I weekly explore the deeps of the Urban Artcore-Flickr group to detect interesting and impressing examples of urban photography.
As I wrote in the first “Urban Top Shots” article, the reason of why I post foreign photos is easy to understand:
I do that, because I think that there are many good, but mostly unknown photos on Flickr and so I have some interesting visual content, you’ll see new shots with urban character and the photographers and/ or artists will maybe become some fame.

Smash 137 - Graffiti Show
Some weeks ago, I wrote about the upcoming Smash 137 graffiti exhibition. Yesterday it was time - Exactly 7pm, the Common Ground Gallery opened its doors.
“Contemporary European artist Smash 137 has a worldwide reputation as being an innovator. His impact on the international writer’s scene is significant and widespread. He is what you might call a writer’s writer, with an advanced conceptual take on letter styles and modes of application. Equally at home in the street and in the gallery his work takes the art of writing to the next level.” (press release)

Streetfiles - Urban Art Photo Show
Half a year ago, about 1,000 photo of the international urban art photo community Streetfiles were shown as prints at the Graffest in Gdansk. Now, this wide collection of graffiti and street art photos is in Berlin!
Actually the name should be “0,6% Streetfiles” or something, because right now we have 186,000 photos. But we printed no new photos, so the name stays the same. Please mind that all photos are half year old and older. We made just a quick selection.

Jim Avignon & Wallbreakers Final
Last weekend, the “Wallbreakers Festival”, which toured through Germany the last months, ends with a big get-together in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The last part of that street-art-exhibition-series was a exhibition, including live painting and music session, by Neoangin aka Jim Avignon, who presented some really interesting paintings.
The idea behind the “Wallbreakers Festival” was it to discuss 20 years breakdown in an artistic context:
“2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. A historical moment in German history, as well as for the cultural scene of the Street Art movement. On one hand, the Berlin Wall represents a salient symbol of the Cold War and the separation of Germany. On the other hand, it represents a creative areal of a peacefull revolution and the biggest open-air galery in the world.” (artwallbreakers.com)
