Pisa73: Exploring the Iconic Graffiti Artist's Legacy

Two days ago, I was invited to visit the opening of the “Source/ Resource” group-exhibition at Wilde Gallery in Berlin. In addition to some works by contemporary artists like Antonio Santin and Awst&Walther they show new artworks by two of my favorite stencil artists, Evol and Pisa73! As always when I take a look at their very detailed and amazing artwork, I was really flashed, but also the artworks by Mirko Mielke, who presented a photo on concrete and a photo on a found wall, were very inspiring! ...

Yesterday I visited the new group show at Superplan Gallery in Berlin-Friedrichshain. 22 artists from seven countries (No, sorry there are only artworks by 21 artists, one work is still in London, because of the ban on flying caused by that ash cloud from Island…) present their interpretation of the exhibition’s motto “Keep Smiling, Loser!”. It was a nice evening. Once again I was impressed by Pisa73’s stencil art skills and Pabo’s and Base23’s great visual style, but also the artworks of the other participating artists, including BastiBasti, Devoner, Dust, Geso, Grapheart, Ink-A-Zoid and others, were really interesting. Additionally it’s the first exhibition of N8 Van Dyke in Germany… ...

After the great success of the urban art fair Stroke.01, which took place in Munich in October 2009, the next generation is in the works: Stroke.02 – Urban Art Fair Munich! Stroke is a Europe-wide art fair for contemporary and so-called street art. The recent participants list includes some interesting European urban art galleries and magazines, for example my favorite Berlin-based gallery ATM and the Graffiti Art Magazine from Paris… Most interesting for me and of-course for the visitors of the upcoming second Stroke is, that there will be a lot of live paintings by internationally well-known artist. Whether Maclaim, Pisa73, Base23 or Claudio Ethos, I think that the live actions will be the highlights of the art show! ...

Yesterday, I visited the Pisa73 and Czarnobyl stencil art exhibition in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Although the shown artworks were really nice, they unfortunately were the same I already know from the “Aerosol Fumes” stencil art group exhibition… Nevertheless I took some shots, because Pisa73 and Czarnobyl are two of the most famous Berlin-based stencil artist and their artworks are well-known in Europe and overseas. Most notably is the great location. It’s called the “Nest” and it’s above a little nice café. It’s the same interesting location were the Streetfiles urban art photo show took place in November 2009. ...

Berlin is the world capital of stencil art - You don’t think so? Then take a look at the extravagant “Aerosol Fumes” stencil art exhibition! Since two days, Berlin’s five most well-known stencil artists – Bohomaz, Czarnobyl, Emess, Evol and Pisa73 – exhibit together in the Neurotitan Gallery. Yippieh, 2010 will start with an extravagant street art show! The five most well-known Berlin-based stencil artists - Bohomaz, Czarnobyl, Emess, Evol and Pisa73 - will exhibit together in the Neurotitan Gallery. Do you remember the stencil art show “Grains of Wrath” by Pisa73 I recommended to you some days before? Today I had some time and hit the road to get photos from that urban art exhibition. One interesting part of the new artworks is, that Pisa73 evolved the classic, often planar stencil art technique to a rough speckled form. Hence I found it really interesting to inspect the spray-paintings, which by the way focus on institutional and corporate authority and its traditional misuse of power. ...

Pisa73, one of the best stencil artists I know, will start his new urban art exhibition, named “Grains of Wrath”, in Berlin this Friday! Pisa73 – Foul! Repulsive! Detestable! The show will present new (spray) paintings by the Berlin based artists with a focus on institutional and corporate authority and its traditional misuse of power. “Drawing primarily on the events of Walpurgnisnacht at the end of April each year, when riots commonly erupt in Berlin, Pisa73’s latest series of work depicts moments of unmitigated aggression between police and protesters, but does so with a pervading stillness, a disconcerting calm, that undermines the chaos that these subjects suggest.
