Fine Lines Series | Well-known writers and members of the infamous GFA crew, Poet and Arunski opened their abstract tagging exhibition last weekend at Skalitzers Gallery in Berlin as a part of the galleries “Fine Lines” exhibition series, exploring the role of tagging within contemporary art!
I went there mainly to take some shots and to have a look whether Poet and Arunski had the power not just to reproduce one of those Cope2-like tag on canvas shows, but creating something different. And I have to say, they did it…
The tag, also referred to as handstyle, urban calligraphy or ‘writing’, is a personal statement or signature: an expression of identity. The work of many artists starts and ends with the tag. For some the tag represents the basis from which they developed their style into less abstract art forms. For many of these artists tagging is a relevant part of their work, others’ entire message is contained within their tag. (Skalitzers Gallery)
…they went out armed with cans and canvases, tagged walls and scratched the canvas over the wet spray-paint. Back home, they painted abstract patterns on it with markers. Although I have to say that the idea seems to be rather crazy, Poet and Arunski created in that way totally abstract and unique and different paintings…What do you think?
