Art Project: Urban & Street Art Explorations

A few days ago, the international urban art festival See No Evil finished in Bristol! The project, which once a year brings together a selection of the world’s best street artists, again resulted in a huge outdoor gallery with lots of new, colorful painted murals based on and around Nelson Street… The See No Evil arts project represented hundreds of elements and styles of the street art world descending on one busy city centre. The building owners each give permission for the painting to take place including; a restaurant, youth centre, office blocks, student living accommodation, police station and a bridge/overpass. After the buildings have been painted and the final pieces finished, the event climaxes with a New York style Block Party that brings together all the aspects of the street art scene, welcoming the public to share their work. ...

Attention all British folks - The UK’s most ambitious permanent street art project See No Evil will return from 13th to 19th August! Announced as Europe’s largest street art event back in 2011, See No Evil brought 72 international urban artists, including some of the finest names, to Bristol. During one week, artists like Aryz, El Mac, Mr. Jago and many more transformed wide areas of the city into a massive outdoor art gallery. Some months ago, one of the world’s leading artists, TED Prize winner JR came up with the incredible JR Inside Out project, a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Inside Out in Haiti Together with Eyes on Haiti, the global art projectInside Out recently rose souls in the Caribbean country of Haiti! It looks like there are lots of talented photographers around the world, identifying with the JR Inside Out philosophy and for that reason join the challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world, what a great success! ...

After that phenomenal collaboration with Nawer in Krakow, the Amsterdam-based urban art duo Graphic Surgery just finished a new mural! Located in Dresden, Germany, the 25 meters high wall has been painted as a part of the CityBilder project, which recently took place in town and also includes urban artworks by Frm & Otecki, Moneyless, Saddo, Jens Besser and others. The finished mural now shows an abstract bundle of black and white lines and is simply named Bauhaus after the famous German school for crafts and fine arts. Here are some pics… ...

Spanish-born twins How & Nosm currently painted a massive mural in Los Angeles! As a part of the L.A. Freewalls project, the mural sticks out a mile and is probably one of the largest murals I’ve seen in the last months… What first started as a simple version of the Anarcho-syndicalistic black-red flag worked out in the end as an impressing, detailed wall painting! In my eyes, the mural was the best and effective advert for their Achtung! show, which recently opened its doors in LA’s Known Gallery. ...

Although I already introduced JR’s Inside Out project (did you know that 40 to 50 thousand people are already participating?!) to you, I don’t want to withhold the interview he recently did with Bilal Randeree from Arabian news channel Al Jazeera from you… JR, a semi-anonymous French street artist, uses his camera to show the world its true face, by pasting photos of the human face across massive canvases. After winning the TED Prize, he started a new project, insideoutproject.net, that is apparently taking the world by storm. ...

Crazy Australian-born painter and installation artist Anthony Lister is going to come to Berlin next week for a big fat experimental art marathon! For 6 days and 6 nights he will live in Berlin’s Project Room being permanently creative and watched online… Tools, brushstrokes, spraypaint, electric guitar, doubts and hopes, hate and love, heroes on the walls, fallen dreams, questions and answers, visibles and invisibles - Mr. Lister will take the challenge to paint about, with and for Berlin. Art Competition | One of my most favorite European cities London has another art competition: Rich Mix and Havana Club just launched “The Wall Project” taking place over the next 12 months in the heart of London’s most vibrant creative area and cultural hotspot Shoreditch!
