Famous Belgian muralist Roa recently put up a new huge hedgehog on Chance Street in East-London’s Shoreditch! Roa, who visited the British capital again for his Hypnagogia show at Stolenspace Gallery, created in that way a new pilgrim shrine for new and old fans of his renown portrayals of large scale urban wildlife, hand painted in his distinctive black and white style. After spending several weeks in Australia, this new Roa hedgehog is the first mural he painted in Europe for a long time and I’m pretty sure it will be a good reason for all the Olympics tourists to visit Shoreditch… ...

Roa: An Introduction To Animal Representation by Mammal Press is the first limited edition book by famous Belgian urban artist Roa! As announced I was able to get some quick photographically insights into it during the opening of Roa’s currently running exhibition in Berlin, for what reason here are the first and exclusive insights… Although the book I looked over was just some kind of a quick prototype (the final version will by slightly different), it felt good in my hands and seems to be a must to have not just for collectors. It includes not just photos of Roa’s murals from all over the globe, but also a great collection of Roa sketches and drawings as well as corresponding text describing animals. ...

Famous for his large-scale depictions of animals on city walls around the world, Belgian urban artist Roa brings the creatures which inhabit the fringes of human society back to the metropolis. Recently Skalitzers Gallery opened its doors for his first solo-exhibition in Berlin, including again brilliant paintings, sketches and drawings of animals in his unique style… Of course I joined the opening ceremony, chatted with the man of the day, took some photos for those of you who can’t make it to visit the show and had some first insights into Roa’s first limited edition book Roa: An Introduction To Animal Representation by Mammal Press (Photos of the book will follow - I just can say it’s simply great!). Yesterday, right after the doors of my exhibition opening closed, one of the currently most famous urban artists arrived in Berlin! Yep, Roa is back in town for his upcoming exhibition at Skalitzers Gallery… Simply entitled Transit, the show by the Belgian graffiti artist (his first solo-show in Berlin by the way!) includes new paintings presenting his internationally well-known graffiti animals!
