Yesterday evening was the vernissage of Artiste Ouvrier’s stencil art solo show in Berlin. The Parisian artist started with street and especially with stencil art in the early 90’s. In the last years, he exhibited around the world, e.g. in Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, Hamburg and London, and made himself a reputation as an outstanding stencil artist. In Berlin, he will now present his new series of artworks about the historic battle from Waterloo, called “Pochoirs Normands”. ...

In August, the German street artist Evol hit Dresden and painted a whole stencil art city in a 10*8m hole in the ground on a abandoned slaughterhouse. That area was formerly - in 1832 - painted by Caspar David Friedrich and was used for utilization of carcass as recently as 15 years ago. Now, there’s a video documentation of that urban art installation, which shows in a very crude way the richness of detail of Evol’s stencil artworks. It’s impressive and somehow terrifying. Famous stencil artists M-City has a new, very interesting project! After creating the biggest stencil artwork worldwide some month ago, he started constructing and building the Fabryka. The M-City­ factory produces nothing, it serves no useful purpose, but it stirs the senses nevertheless, and its huge dimensions emphasize the transformations that contemporary culture is undergoing. This factory needs no workers. The engines that keep it going require little attention. The ghostly nature of the installation evokes a vague sense of danger and forecasts the end of physical work. ...

In addition to C215 and Pisa73, a third famous and internationally known stencil artists opens an exhibition this week. Czarnobyl presents outstanding and extraordinary stencils art in his solo exhibition at Superplan Gallery in Berlin. Born 1974 in Poland, he lives and works in Berlin since 1993. Already in 1990 he began to take an interest in to cutting stencils to express his feelings and ideas. His recent artworks are characterized by their richness of detail and color grades. ...

Do you remember the stencil art show “Grains of Wrath” by Pisa73 I recommended to you some days before? Today I had some time and hit the road to get photos from that urban art exhibition. One interesting part of the new artworks is, that Pisa73 evolved the classic, often planar stencil art technique to a rough speckled form. Hence I found it really interesting to inspect the spray-paintings, which by the way focus on institutional and corporate authority and its traditional misuse of power. ...

I love this amazing stencil art stuff by Christian Guemy alias C215. This and the fact, that he is one of the most talented urban artists I know, are the reasons for the interview I did with him some months ago. Two days ago, the debut exhibition of Iranian street artists in the USA starts! The show, called “From the Streets of Iran, Works on paper by urban artists in Iran” and curated by Shervin Shahbazi, presents graffiti-based artworks, which make urbanism, political resistance, scenes of everyday people and the innocence of youth subjects of discussion. Pisa73, one of the best stencil artists I know, will start his new urban art exhibition, named “Grains of Wrath”, in Berlin this Friday! Pisa73 – Foul! Repulsive! Detestable! The show will present new (spray) paintings by the Berlin based artists with a focus on institutional and corporate authority and its traditional misuse of power. “Drawing primarily on the events of Walpurgnisnacht at the end of April each year, when riots commonly erupt in Berlin, Pisa73’s latest series of work depicts moments of unmitigated aggression between police and protesters, but does so with a pervading stillness, a disconcerting calm, that undermines the chaos that these subjects suggest. Yesterday I informed you about the current exhibition by Berlin based street artist Emess. Named “What’s the colour of money?”, the stencil art show presents a large number of interesting and often humorous mashups with money, politics and the market as the main themes.
