Berlin Street Art Documentary: Berlin speaks for itself.

Eastcross Projects is going to release their street art documentary film Berlin spricht für sich selbst (Berlin speaks for itself) in near future. Originally announced for early August, the film documents various street artists like Mein lieber Prost, Think, Tona and Alias at work in Berlin. Including graffiti and tagging actions, group-pasting and sticker runs as well as run aways and police controls, the latest trailer (which is online for a few weeks now) promises deep and interesting insight into the loosely linked core group of creatives doing street art in Germany’s capital. Although I haven’t heard anything new about the film after the trailer, I’m nevertheless pretty sure there will be a release in near future - I’ll definitely keep you posted! ...

Free Pussy Riot in Berlin - Mentalgassi

For today the proclamation of sentence for the three arrested Pussy Riot activists Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Ekaterina Samucevich is announced, for what reason there are several solidarity events taking place around the world. In Berlin, the street art collective Mentalgassi (here in Spain), recently put up one of their well-known urban faces, this time showing one of those famous Pussy Riot woolen masks… Pussy Riot is an anonymous Russian feminist performance art group formed in October 2011. Through a series of peaceful performances in highly visible places, the group has given voice to basic rights under threat in Russia today, while expressing the values and principles of gender equality, democracy and freedom of expression contained in the Russian constitution and other international instruments, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the CEDAW Convention. Vermibus Ad Takeover in Berlin

As I already wrote, ad takeovers have a long tradition in the international street art scene, especially in Berlin. Now, a guy called Vermibus took over some ad light boxes near Kottbuser Tor, Frankfurter Tor and Jannowitzbrücke in Berlin’s city and mutated the shown persons into some ugly, scary monsters! Looks like he used some kind of paint remover or buffing stuff to modify the advert posters…or maybe it’s just paint on the windows…not sure… ...

Yarn-Bombing Berlin: Moneyless, Hottea & Spidertag

Several weeks ago, a well-known manufacturer of sports equipment invited four yarn-addicted urban artists to Berlin for the making of a new commercial spot. Nevertheless it seems that Moneyless, Hottea, Spidertag and Aimee Dymond had some fun bombing the city with their thread-art which was mainly created in Kreuzberg! Unfortunately I had no time to take some photos of the finished street artworks… While watching please keep in mind that this is some kind of viral marketing - They got paid to wear those clothes! ...

Street Never Ends, Art Never Dies

Berlin-based street artist Mein Lieber Prost (or just Prost for short) opened his first solo-show last Thursday at Westberlin Gallery. Like me, a lot of people who know his well-known character tags and minimalistic street art sketches from Berlin’s streets, went to see whether it’s possible to bring this spontaneous works into a gallery space… The 24 hour king of street amusement, whose bold visual statements on society are a crime to miss, is happy to temporarily work within the walls of a gallery filling the space with his message by ironising and criticizing established conventions, and making a positive change. Artbase Grabowsee - Urban Art Festival

Art Festival | This is an urban art Easter egg for you: The urban exploration team of go2know is currently organizing an urban art festival in an abandoned sanitarium near Berlin! The Artbase Grabowsee (how it’s called) will bring together street artists, urban art painters, musicians, DJ’s, VJ’s and light artists to create an amazing festival of creativity in an interesting location. There’s already a big line-up of local and international artists including for example 44flavours, Alias, Gogoplata, Herr von Bias, Irgh, Klub7, Prost, SP-38, Tika and many more! What I like is that the list is still open, for what reason you just have to drop them a message if you also would like to participate! The location seems to be big enough for some more artists and there’s also enough time to get everything done - the festival will take place on the first weekend in August… ...
