A few days ago, the international urban art festival See No Evil finished in Bristol! The project, which once a year brings together a selection of the world’s best street artists, again resulted in a huge outdoor gallery with lots of new, colorful painted murals based on and around Nelson Street… The See No Evil arts project represented hundreds of elements and styles of the street art world descending on one busy city centre. The building owners each give permission for the painting to take place including; a restaurant, youth centre, office blocks, student living accommodation, police station and a bridge/overpass. After the buildings have been painted and the final pieces finished, the event climaxes with a New York style Block Party that brings together all the aspects of the street art scene, welcoming the public to share their work. ...

After hitting California, China and Lisbon, destruction muralist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils (here our interview with him), just popped up on the Archipelago of the Azores for the currently running Walk & Talk festival… Recently, he and his team finished up a pretty impressing decayed church mural! This new piece entitled Abraço to ruin (Embrace the ruin) depicts a women retaining the ruin’s walls as if protecting a child. With a line-up reading like the who-is-who of Europe’s urban mural artists - including DXTR, Nychos, Pixelpancho, Etam Cru, Arsek & Erase, ECB and many more - the probably biggest European street art festival Like it. Art, which took place in Kazan, the capital and largest city of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, just finished. As promised a few days ago, I managed to get some impressions from there… Like it. Art Festival Large and medium scale graffiti appeared on the walls of around 40 objects across the city. The festival arranged under the project MadeInKazan also encompassed public master classes, lectures of the European artists, the best canvases exhibition, “Trash-truck hunting” night painting session and a graffiti contest. ...

After that pretty nice stencil art village near London’s Smithfield Market, Evol just created some new pieces in Warsaw! As collaboration with Monstfur, the new stencil art village is extended by an entire butterfly swarm, adding some life to the usually very material houses by Evol… Those of you who want to know, how these fabulous street artworks are created should watch this short making-of video, documenting Evol at work. Italian mural artist Pixel Pancho just came up with an fantastic Soviet-style piece in Kazan, Russia! This huge new mural is part of the Like It. Art festival in the capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan. Announced as Europe’s largest street art and graffiti festival, Like It. Art took place between 17 to 22 July and was officially supported by the Mayor’s Office of Kazan. But although the line-up includes pretty big names like Etam Cru from Poland, Kislow from the Ukraine, Belin from Spain, Nychos from Austria, and of course Pixelpancho, I unfortunately haven’t heard much about this urban art festival before… ...

Similar to the latest Urban Art Link-Tips, it’s been a long time since the last Urban Art Recap was published in September 2011. Nonetheless, I’d like to give you a short summary about the five most popular street art, graffiti and urbanism things on Urban Art Core in June 2012… Fin DAC’s Female Stencil Art Series London-based stencil artist Fin DAC worked hard on his latest female stencil art series (see above), combining hand-cut single-layer stencils with freehand spitting. With large scale murals spread across Australia’s east coast, Shida is a heavyweight of the street art scene down-under. For the Polish Urban Forms Foundation, he brought one of his vibrant, energy-loaded murals to Lodz! Urban Forms fundamental mission is to saturate cityscape with creative, multilayered and modern art, that would allow to improve current image of Lodz, giving it a truly artistic and original value. Attention all British folks - The UK’s most ambitious permanent street art project See No Evil will return from 13th to 19th August! Announced as Europe’s largest street art event back in 2011, See No Evil brought 72 international urban artists, including some of the finest names, to Bristol. During one week, artists like Aryz, El Mac, Mr. Jago and many more transformed wide areas of the city into a massive outdoor art gallery.
