Famous propaganda artist Shepard Fairey recently visited one of my favorite European capitals and did something I didn’t suspected! After all this paste-up installations he left behind in almost every bigger city around the world, he yet again painted a massive mural in Copenhagen! Shepard Fairey and the Obey crew beautify walls in and around Copenhagen. This particular peace dove mural was their first effort and located on Jagtvej 69, 2200 Nørrebro for those in town. One of my most favorite urban artists, the Spaniard Aryz, lately painted another huge wall - this time in the Italian city of Civitavecchia! I don’t think I have to say that much about that astonishing new mural artwork, its fantastic colors and size - just have a look and be impressed! - but it’s definitely worth to make some words about the artist! Originally born in California Aryz is now based in Barcelona and part of the fantastic MM Crew. Inspired by Os Gemeos, Sagüe, Roid, Dran, Popay, Mode2 and others he started painting large-scale characters being well-known around the globe! Recreation or reinterpretation are as well as letters in graffiti integral components of street art, but it’s not usual to create an entire installation by just being inspired by a single painting… French street artists Žilda and Rö recently reinterpreted L’assassinat de Marat (The Assassination of Marat), a painting by Jean-Joseph Weerts, by creating a astonishing mixed-media installation somewhere in Rennes! Wow, this new abstract graffiti wall and installation I just stumbled upon on Graffuturism (one of my new favorite blogs by the way!) is nothing but mind-blowing! Graphic Surgery and Nawer, two stars of the international abstract graffiti art scene, recently got together to paint that mixture of 2D and 3D lines at the Bang Bang Kindergarten in Krakow… This pretty collaboration is not just great because of the intense, fluorescent neon color and the resulting huge contrast, but - and that’s really dope - because of the nice combination of a flat wall and a 3D swing! Magnus Gustafsson aka Nug is a Swedish graffiti artist and has been called one of the worst graffiti vandals in Sweden. His latest project (the concept is fuck you, yes you) for the Fame Festival 2011 in Italy, which recently became famous being mentioned on vandalog.com, doobybrain.com, theworldsbestever.com, crackajack.de, juxtapoz.com, electru.de and rebelart.net (just to name a few), explains why… Together with some dressed in black friends (a few trained vandals, the others just good guys and girls), Nug hit different spots in the old city of Grottaglie and totally fucked up the walls with black spray-paint! ...

Moscow-based art collective Faceheads just meet up with Russian probably the best street artist ever, who sometimes is named the new Banksy - His name: ATO! The special thing about ATO is that he creates beautiful street artworks without having any noticeable concept - A fact, a lot of other street artists should also keep in mind as not to get too conceptual with their street art. Вечный Огонь (or Eternal Flame in English) is the name of an spectacular urban art installation in Yekaterinburg, Russia. To remind of fallen Soviet soldiers during World War II, an artist group burned the soldiers faces on wooden panels using Molotov Cocktails. The results are just great and are now part of an abandoned hospital. It’s amazing to see, how weapons can be used in a unusual way to create art. The roughness, flames and burned faces are probably the best solution to visualise brutal war, for what reason these unique Molotov Cocktail artworks are in my eyes a good way to commemorate… ...

Back in May, I featured the graffiti art show by the infamous Da Mental Vaporz (DMV) crew from France. Now, two months later, Emile Sacre published a video documenting the preparations and the opening of exactly this show and I have to say that it just looks great! Dran,** Bom.k**, Sowat, Brusk, Gris1, Kan, Iso, Blo and Jaw created a super exhibition including totally different styles, nice collaborations and amazing solo-artworks. In my eyes, DMV just showed again that they play in one of the highest levels in European graffiti. ...

I just stumbled upon this interesting intervention in Sofia, Bulgaria: An still unknown artist - dubbed Banksy of Bulgaria by some news agencies - transformed figures of Soviet soldiers at the base of the Soviet Army monument into superheroes and cartoon characters! The Joker, Superman, Santa Claus, Robin (not quite sure) and even Ronald McDonald carrying the Stars and Stripes could be identified - I’m not sure about the figures, maybe you are able to name some more… However, in my eyes this guerrilla art action is just superb! The transformation of Soviet soldiers into fantasy characters and in that way the combination of modern US culture and Soviet history is what some may missed in the original Banksy’s latest artworks. ...
