Street Art Europe: Discover Europe's vibrant urban art scene

It’s urban art festival time in Germany, what’s a good reason for all of you to travel the forgotten, abandoned or public places and spaces in Berlin, Saxony or even Cologne… Artrmx and Colorrevolution are going to present the international urban art festival CityLeaks in Cologne this year! Artists from all over the world are invited to create large-scale murals, paste-ups and installations in public spaces, house fronts, off-locations and galleries during the festival’s outdoor action-week. Well-known urban artists like Blu, (who already created the first mural) Emess, El Bocho, Faith47, Jim Avignon, Roa, Sam3, Smash137, Stefan Strumbel, Zedz and others already agreed, what makes CityLeaks becoming probably the biggest urban art festival on continental Europe. ...

After Chazme, Lump, Sainer and Sepe, Sam3 and Blu it’s now famous Spanish mural artist El Tono who painted two new mural artworks in Poland! El Tono, whose trademarks are wall paintings of abstract tuning forks, approves in that way my theory about Polish cities like Warsaw, Krakow or Szczecin becoming new hot-spots for street art in Europe. The building is located on Zlota street in the Wola neighborhood, close to the central station. I just stumbled upon new artworks by Italian street artist Teo Pirisi aka Moneyless from Strasbourg and have to say that I like his experimental street installations. Moneyless creates the next level of what the Spanish La Pluma Eléctri*k street art crew calls Spider Tags: Two and three dimensional abstract installations made of cotton threads combined with geometrically paintings. The results are often impressing, especially when the installations look like wafting through the air… ...

As already mentioned the French urban art festival Crimes of Minds is going on and on. Every month a group of A-level urban artists is painting several wall in and around the small city of Brest! For those of you, having no time to travel to Brest, the Crimes of Minds team recently published another video presenting the latest artists painting in the city Morten Andersen, FinDAC and Sly 2. Looking forward to get some photos of the next artist-group including Solo One, C215 and Herakut!

This graffiti documentary looks just great! Obsession Of Colours documents graffiti artists in Poland’s Tri-City area, which is an urban area consisting of three Polish cities: Gdańsk (where the Streetfiles photo exhibition took place in 2009), Gdynia and Sopot. There isn’t that much info about this new Polish film project right now but I can tell you, the footage is mind-breaking! Including fantastic angles, unusual points of view and great lights, I’m pretty sure Obsession Of Colours will become the next highlight of graffiti documentary and a must to watch for all graffiti enthusiasts and documentarists… ...

I just fall in with that astonishing collaboration art show by Remi/Rough and Australian artist Stormie Mills at Unit 44 in Newcastle. Both put together their totally different styles, combined Remi’s colorful, abstract graffiti lines with Stormie’s crazy, monochrome characters and created for that reason some eye-catching artworks delighting with somehow scary scenes in dope atmospheres… Remi/Rough and Stormie Mills have been traveling all over the world together for well over a decade now. This show is a narrative of some of those travels together. ...

Fin Dac in Brest As already mentioned, stencil artist FinDAC and abstract graffiti artist Morten Andersen currently painted at the Crimes of Minds urban art festival in Brest. Recently Fin published some first impressions of one of his murals and arouse in that way a burst of enthusiasm, for what reason I don’t want to withhold those photos from you! I met FinDAC first during my London-trip last year and was quite surprised when I got to know that I is - with good reason - a well-known stencil artist on the Isles, because I haven’t heard of him before. His mainly Asian-inspired stencil motives are characterized by really detailed handwork, sparkling shadows, complex patterns and a good pinch of freehand spray-painting - his brilliant Jimi Hendrix stencil artworks are good examples! ...

The last time I wrote about British urban artist Word To Mother was after my visit of his exhibition opening at Stolen Space Gallery in London. Now I just stumbled upon this dope video by Andrew Telling showing Word To Mother painting for the Fame Festival in Italy back in 2010. Born and raised in a small English seaside town, never far from a stoney beach, crashing waves and salty sea veterans. It’s this environment that has had such impact and influence on Word to Mothers work and can be seen throughout his drawings and paintings… (Stolen Space Gallery) ...

sam3 in poland Mural Art | In the last months a lot of new large-scale mural artworks were created by famous urban artists in Poland - One good example is this amazing jazz time mural in Szczecin, another the new Blu wall in Krakow. Recently street art legend Sam3 hit the streets of Poznan and also created a new huge mural artwork! The painting, which again is done in his well-known shadow technique, shows a human being circle orbiting around a glowing ball. Entitled Power to the People, this artwork is dedicated to Spain’s May 15th movement of young people protesting all over Spain and appeals really powerful in my eyes… ...

Graffiti Exhibition | One of my favorite graffiti crews in Europe is - since I met some of them at the Meeting of Styles in London - the French Da Mental Vaporz (DMV) collective including the famous graffiti artists Dran, Bom-K, Brusk, Sowat, Gris, Jaw, Blo (who recently had an exhibition in Berlin), Kan and Iso. Now this marvellous crew is going to reunite for an exclusive group-exhibition at the GHP in Toulouse… After 5 years of hard work the guys in GHP are closing the venue.
