Back in September, EPOS 257 created a nice urban installation in the city of Prague, fencing 50 square meters of public space. The whole thing withstood about 54 days not just because it was embedded in concrete, but also because the council had no idea how to handle the situation… In the current society, our living space is defined by legal norms and regulations, the same way as fences demark the choices of our free movement. ...

Graffiti Fine Art | This time it was really hard to decide a heading which makes sense - on the list were for example “Russian Graffiti Drawing”, “Graffiti-inspired Art from Russia”, “Drawn Graffiti Paintings”, and a lot more which is why Russian artist Aykovskiy combines fine drawing, fine painting and nice graffiti skills to very interesting canvas works! Honestly I know nothing about him/ her. I just got an e-mail with these very interesting motives and I thought it would be great to share them with you. Mural Art | I can’t understand anything but I really love that brilliant video showing Spanish graffiti and street artist Aryz painting a concrete wall in Barcelona earlier this year as a part of the Concrete Walls Project! Living in Barcelona, he got in contact with the local, very creative and inspiring street art scene early and developed an own, unique characters style. Now, he is well-known around Europe for his amazing murals and pieces (just remember that beautiful work he did together with Smash137!) that he uses spray-cans as well as paint rollers and brushes for. ...

Graffiti Exhibition | The New York-born graffiti artist John Andrew Perello aka JonOne is one of the most famous writers nowadays. Inspired by classical painters like Kandinsky, Matisse, Pollock and Motherwell his style combines abstract and expressionistic elements with his own graffiti freestyle… Nowadays, JonOne has structured his work from the streets of New York to the “limitations” of canvas (some extremely large) and he now fancy more brushstrokes than air sprays. His extremely colorful paintings remind us of the frenzy of large cities, of their bright lights and social codes. Urban Art Magazine | There are some really good urban art magazine including the VNA Magazine from London, the Spacemag from Hamburg, the Hidden Champion Magazine from Japan and the Crack Mag from Amsterdam out there and I’m pretty sure a lot of you know at least one of these, but recently I found another, quite interesting and nice one from Switzerland… The Amateur Magazine is “a Swiss artist driven print publication with a broad view on the exchangeable worlds of urban arts, illustration, design and culture. It is about fresh creative people, projects, products and places.” It’s distributed in about 20 cities all over the globe, including Berlin, Paris, New York, Milan, London and Barcelona or available online and published twice a year! The last issue (number seven!) includes articles, statements and photos about Pablo Cots, Onur, Beastman, the Urban Art Studio in Zurich, and other urban-inspired topics like art and fashion… ...

Good news: The next parts of the new graffiti and street art documentary “Bomb It 2” by Jon Reiss is online now! After Bangkok and Tel Aviv (Remember the post I wrote last week!), the four new episodes present urban artist from Copenhagen, including Great, Bates, Victor Ash and HuskMitNavn. They show Great and Bates painting a wall while talking about their passion for their work, HuskMitNavn talking about why he only bombs characters, and what he doesn’t want his neighbors to know and Ash talking about how he migrated from doing illegal to legal graffiti… ...

Reverse Graffiti | I really laughed when I watched that new urban art project “Searching for Something Concrete” by interventional artist Brad Downey today, because I had the same idea together with an friend of mine a few month ago when we visited an exhibition in a gallery were the walls are periodically painted by artists, whitewashed by the gallery owner, painted by artists, whitewashed by the gallery owner, and so on… ...

It’s the month of urban art fairs and festivals. In addition to the Stroke.03 in Berlin and the Moniker in London, the urban art festival “Escape 2010” will take place in Vienna until the end of October. Enthralling national and international artists were invited to the exhibition in order to display and communicate the current positions of urban art. Tape, spray-paint and abandoned walls, that’s what the Amsterdam-based urban art duo Graphic Surgery needs to create these fantastic, architectural-inspired, geometrical graffiti artworks. In the last month they were really busy, travelling through Europe and painting new things.
