Nychos’ Graffiti Show Photos

Nychos’ graffiti horror show, which opened yesterday at Pure Evil Gallery in London, is a great success. A lot of people joined the opening (yes, some these crazy hipsters were there, too!) and marvelled at these gorgeous comic-style paintings, drawings and graffiti. Some were really scared by the horrifying scenes, brilliant! The Austrian Illustrator and Graffiti artist NYCHOS, who is mainly known for his prolific street art concept the Rabbit Eye Movement, is set to rock the foundations of the London establishment, combining his original comic styling with heavy metal attitude. Stencil Art: Fin DAC commemorates Hendrix

London-based stencil artist Fin DAC, who recently visited Berlin to create some astonishing stencil artworks, will commemorate Jimi Hendrix on the 40th anniversary of his death tomorrow. At Red Bull Studios in London, Fin will release his 16-colour, hand finished “Hendrix: Still Reigning, Still Dreaming” print and complete one of the four unique original pieces on wood, copper, metal and a newspaper collage canvas. Fin DAC’s striking image of Hendrix possesses a bold and edgy quality, yet also offers a harmonising ambience, illuminated by the kaleidoscopic protrusion of colour. Seventy hand finished limited edition prints and nine special edition prints with extra hand finishing and layers will be available on the night, before their official release on September 18. SPQR - Monochrome Stencil Art

In addition to that fantastic graffiti horror show by Nychos, there will be another interesting urban art exhibition tomorrow in London: British stencil artist SPQR will open his “Monochromatic Shades” stencil art show at Signal Gallery, exploring the art of protest, brainwashed media and the evils of society. SPQR is an artist from the West of England whose work has the ability to take the challenge of Banksy head on and produce a body of mostly stencil based artwork which has it’s own brand of ‘humour through protest’. Unlike Banksy, he has not been interested in developing hype and PR frenzy. In fact, he has actively avoided ‘selling out’ to the more commercial and cynical end of the Street Art movement. Urban Art Sculptures: Boy Soldiers

Earlier this month, the urban art sculptures exhibition “Boy Soldiers” by fine artist Schoony and the Graffik London gallery opened it’s doors for the public. With a lot of better known street and graffiti artists on the guest list, the opening at the Blackall Studios was really successful! Each of the 25 participating urban artists (“the UK’s top artists of the current UK and European art scene”, as Hooked wrote) designed one of the fantastic Boy Soldier fibreglass sculptures by Schoony and created in that way some really good and especially unusual urban artworks. ...

In Action: RDW Stencil Art, London

Last weekend I caught up with Argentinian stencil artists RDW in London and took shots of some live action on the streets - The result was a huge stencil-sprayed portrait of Che Guevara on Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch. Poster Boy: The War of Art

Last Saturday, Poster Boy hit London for the launch of his book “The War of Art” and to promote his defense fund for urban artists (K.A.R.A.T.E.) at Pure Evil Gallery. The book documents his ad-alterations in New York City’s subway and shows some interesting collaborations with other street artists. It’s highly interesting because it also introduces you to the politically background (keywords are ad-busting, public space and artistic freedom)… The earnings will be used to support the “Kids Are Really Against The Empire” (K.A.R.A.T.E.) defense fund for urban artists. The people behind the idea of helping protect and defend artists working in public space are currently considering applying for 501(c)(3) status, which means to become a non-profit organisation in the U.S.A… ...

Argentinian Street Art Show

Last Thursday, the Buenos Aires Calling group-exhibition opened at Pure Evil Gallery, showing unusual, rough street art from Argentina. It’s the first collective exhibition of work from Buenos Aires street artists in London - Naturally I was there and took some photos! Buenos Aires has one of the most active and unusual street art scenes in the world. An economic crash in 2001 acted as a catalyst for a generation of young artists to start painting in the streets. Public acceptance of street art nurtured the scene, giving artists the freedom to experiment at a scale and level of complexity unseen in other cities. (Pure Evil Gallery) ...

Poster Boy: Kids Are Really Against The Empire!

Amazing, famous New York based urban artist and ad-alterer Poster Boy will be in London on Saturday for the “The War of Art” book launch at Pure Evil gallery! Additionally they will officially kick off a legal defense fund for artists called “Kids Are Really Against The Empire”… Kids Are Rallying Against The Empire (K.A.R.A.T.E.) is a grass roots effort we hope to eventually turn into a non-profit organization. Sadly, when dealing with the legal system most artists don’t know, understand, or are intimidated into forgoing their rights. Artists are often poorly represented in court and do not have financial access to proper counsel. Boy Soldiers: Urban Art War in London?

Some of you will may know fine artist Schoony, who is a pro in creating humans out of fibreglass. His latest creation, the “Boy Soldier” is now the main part of an unusual urban art group-exhibition in London!
