In 1929, Johnny Weissmuller, an Austrian-Hungarian-born American swimmer and actor best known for playing Tarzan in movies, inaugurated the Piscine Molitor (also known as the Piscines Auteuil-Molitor or the Grands établissements balnéaires d’Auteuil) swimming pool in Paris (what is why I call it Tarzan’s swimming pool). As well as the beautiful La Jarry, this wonderful Art Deco building, which hosted the popular introduction of the bikini by Louis Réard in 1946, is planned to be destroyed in 2012! ...

Now, after their phenomenal New York project with 100 artists mounting an unsanctioned show in abandoned tunnels during a one-year period, also the Underbelly team around Pac and Workhorse discovered the deep paths worming under the French capital and brought some of the most creative heads - including C215, Futura, Conor Harrington, How and Nosm, Saber, and SheOne - to create the Underbelly Project Paris! ...

I just received an e-mail by well-known French urban artist Rero, who informed me about a ruthless initiative by the city of Paris, who plans to break down the beautiful La Jarry, an old, huge and crazy building near Paris, which is used by many artists as studio and exhibition space… To escape of this tragic end, several artists organised the exhibition-series Saving La Jarry, which also includes a work by Rero, who was invited to paint one big word on the huge facade: the crossed out letters PARADIGM! After the first edition of Tag’n’Tof, a participatory urban art installation project, last year the second edition took recently place at Confluence Gallery in Paris. As a part of the Give Me A Wall So I Can Escape festival, the French PhotoGraff Collectif (PGC) invited 100 graffiti artists to paint a paper graffiti city! For that reason, well-known graffiti artists like Saner, Sowat, Shaka, Sly2, MTO and others were able to paint the recreated streets of Belleville. I just noticed, that French urban artist and master of rectangular shaped calligraphy and geometrically forms L’Atlas (who was recently in Berlin!) created a new public installation in March at the Place du Palais-Royal in Paris! Using 2722 cartons he and some assistants spent one day to build (and destroy) one of his well-known geometrically signs in 3D. I really like this work and think that this is again a good example for the diversity of L’Atlas!
